Hunters and Collectors (aus), , The wedding present (uk), swervedriver (u.s. is foreign, right? ) are all glorious IMHO.
|
Swervedriver is from the UK (if it's the same band I'm thinking of)
Kent (Sweden) are a favorite with me.

Nasum; hell yes. Sad about their singer dying in the tsunami.
As for Bathory, I'm not into black metal very much.

Anyone a fan of The Veils? I believe they are from UK/New Zealand. I've run across a couple of their songs in the last day or so and am really liking it. Anyone have any CD's?

These may not qualify as bands, but they are foreign composers that I have fairly consistantly on my MP3 player:
Michiru Yamane - Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Koichi Sugiyama - Dragon Warrior/Quest I-VII
Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy I-IX
Masaharu Iwata & Hitoshi Sakimoto - Final Fantasy Tactics
....yeah, I'm kind of a nerd. Video Game soundtracks...
Favorites include: Anti-Soul Mysteries Lab (C: LOI), Baljhet Mountains (C: COD), Endless World (DWII), Main Theme (FFIV), Gilgamesh (FFV), Terra (FFVI / FFIX), A Chapel (FFT) and Trisection (FFT).

For me, a lot of the bands I like are foreign. I'm a fan of Air and Stereolab, both French, and then Frou Frou, Billy Bragg, The Pogues and The Clash, (not to mention Coldplay and Radiohead) from those rainy isles to the north. (I know, some of those are really old--but so am I...) The list kind of goes on and on for me.
There's another Icelandic artist that hasn't really made the "jump" over yet called "Mugison." Check him out at http://www.mugison.com/. Seriously-you won't regret it.
|
I miss living in Iceland for that reason alone, the music scene there is so cool and original.
I've really got to get my family to send me some Mugison for Christmas, sounds really good.
Sigur Ros is amazing, I LOVE Air
Got Mikka: Boards of Canada is one of my favorites.

Two Japanese bands I love are Number Girl (they remind me of the Pixies), and OOIOO (founded by Boredoms/Free Kitten drummer/horn player Yoshimi P-We). Nice combination of noise/art rock, techno, punk, and scream-o.
Oh yeah, and The Residents (from Germany).

Roisin Murphy. Sometimes, it's rather bizarre music but it's oddly good.
Flogging Molly. I am not sure if this one counts given the fact that (I believe) only the lead singer was Irish born and the band was formed in the US.
The Corrs and The Pogues. Just fun music. From Ireland and England, respectively.

Anyone like the Shout Out Louds? Sweeeeeeeeedish...
Pretty decent. There are so many British rock groups out there (Indie Rock wise), probably alot more than what the States are bringing out. How about Canadian indie rock bands, like The Dear, Stars, and Arcade Fire?
I too absolutely love Sigur Ros, listened to them alot while working on my thesis as well!

I'm amazed at how many of my favourite bands are Canadian. It's not patriotism, it's just that there are so many great musical things happening here.
Here's my foreign list:
Wedding Present (UK)
The Jam (UK)
Polyphonic Spree (US)
Pixies (US)
Wilco (US)
Los Campesinos (UK)
Midnight Oil (Aus)
