Personally I love cats, I never use to until my girlfriend at the time got me to come to the SPCA with her. Feel in love with one little guy...and well he turned out alright
Maybe you have to have one to appreciate how funny they can be!

So, what I have learned today is that people that like LOLCat pictures are simpletons and people that don't like LOLCat pictures are inhuman. "Can't everybody just get a lawn?"
As for the captions being written in l33t, that's all part of the internet meme.

I'm not going to let your use of the word "meme" pass by without mention.
There. Now I've mentioned it.

I love cats, I don't have one at the moment, but I have had 2 in the last year.
Don't ask...
Anyway, I laugh at a lot of the cat pictures. Just not the ones that look like a 4 year old typed all over.

LOLcats is most certainly not engrish. It's very much intentionally written in the style of an internet meme, taking advantage of very specific colloquial english phrases or situations.

Exactly. Cats don't speak english, so its a foreign language, hence they speak engrish.
From the instructions on how to create a LOLcat from the God of all LOLcat sites

Step one: Think of something to say. This is tricky for some people.
We’ll try a simple, common comment to start:
“That’s a really cute cat. And look, he has a bow on his head!”
Step two: “Engrish” it.

I make signs at my office everyday to announce different things that are happening, and I use some LOLCats pics. One of the ladies wanted to know why they had that bad english and mispelling on them.
I said, "well, you know those online translator things, where you can get a sentence translated from a foreign language into English but it looks kind of funny and the gammar is off?"
She says "Ya, I have used those."
"Well," I told her, "that is meow meow meow, prrrr, meow, translated on one of those, Cat to English."
"Ahh."
She slinks away.

while i completely agree with the dislike of the awww cutesy ones...
but the lolcats has had me in conniptions at times...and the "gangsta catz" speak sometimes makes me laugh harder...and other times its dumb.
i cannot find a comparison between the "hang in there" ones and lolcats. 2 different genres.

The cat pictures that make me laugh are the ones that are perfectly timed, and the text relates to a poster or the topic. I think thats the reason the cute ones don't do it for me, they don't have anything to do with anything. I just find them off-topic and uncreative.
Even I can make them...

Is there anyone else out there that cringes every time you see one of them?
The classic "hang loose" with a photo of a wet cat hanging from a branch - or some derivative thereof - use to be my "psycho-meter" for girls. If I ended up at a girl's pad and she had one of these oh-so-comical posters or pictures, that was a sign she was a nut-bar and that it was best that I sneak out the window clothes or not!
|
Just kidding, I thought this was funny though.
