Perhaps. But IIRC a couple years ago the Roughnecks team were very close to not renewing their lease with Saddledome because they weren't sure if they could afford it. Now take that with a grain of salt, because they could have just been playing hard ball with the Saddledome, because I don't think they would given up a building that seats consistently over ten thousand fans with the dumpy corral.
Also I watched a short minute segment (forget which channel) with the star of the Roughnecks, Kaleb Toth and he had a full time job during the off season. Considering he is the star I would assume he is making the most on the team, if not close too.

Dumb move for both parties! Lacrosse is what place in popularity professional sports? I haven't been to a game live yet and looks like I won't be for a long while. I hope both parties involved wakes up and realized that they are not that popular yet.

I called the Roughnecks office on Friday to find out what is happening with the season ticket money. They told me that they would send an email on the weekend and a letter next week detailing the options. Well, the weekend is pretty much over and I still don't have the email.
I suspect that I'll choose whatever option gives me my money back the soonest. I really don't believe that the league will survive a shutdown. Even if the owners are bluffing and they do play this year, I know that I would easily be able to get the tickets again. It's not like they will be able to raise the ticket prices. I would consider leaving a deposit if they gave me a good reason.
Some interesting reading: It is sad that both sides are fighting about the benefit the players get if the league grows. At this point, I really don't believe that it will survive.

Having been to one Lacrosse game live (and in very good seats mind you) I must say I was not impressed. Any game that requires playing music DURING the play is not in my good books, not to mention my various complaints with the game itself (seemed like Hockey, Indoor Soccer and Basketball had a child... but that's just my taste), and the fact that the goalie for Arizona (?) had a gut so big, it was literally drooping out of the bottom of his jersey.
Therefore this whole lockout has me thinking something along the lines of "I guess beggars can be choosers." This is fringe sport at best and yet they bicker about salaries and "incentives to growth". The NLL will not survive this. If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have even known it was on strike.

The league declined comment Tuesday on a report on The Fan 590, a Toronto all-sports radio station, that the league has presented a revised proposal to players.
There have been discussions between the two sides during the last 24 hours, "Inside Lacrosse" magazine reported Tuesday, adding that player reps held a conference call Monday.

The owners has no credibility if they end up playing a season in 2008.

True. But if they don't play in 2008, they probably don't have a league.
As a side note, I got an email from the Roughnecks saying:

This is why the league can die as far as I'm concerned. I had season tickets for a year and from an administrative standpoint, the roughnecks were an absolute joke. They don't deserve fans.

I agree that it is annoying, but I have had much worse from the Calgary Flames customer service. The worst was when they were developing the Hot House program. Every time I called, no one could ever confirm that my name was on the list and I kept hearing different stories on what the program was going to be and when it would be unveiled. Being two days late with an email when they are in a situation that they are in now is not worth getting too excited about.

Maybe the thread title should read:
NLL Lacrosse Season to be Cancelled?? Maybe...
I just dont understand what the Owners and Players are trying to prove by holding out. Either you play for less money or you dont play at all.
No one is really a winner if this thing gets sorted out or not. Owners lose money every year trying to grow the sport and players make less per year as some NHL guys make in one game. Its tough to point fingers because everyone is just trying to get a piece of the pie, and that pie is just way too small right now.

Interesting. Advertising dollars for some of the teams in the league have already been pulled. The impact of this remains to be seen.

The Arizona Sting actually shut down operations entirely. Though they are owned by the Coyotes, so share staff, so firing back up won't really be that difficult.

Some teams have turned in their dates and can't get them back. According to Bannister there will be a few less teams this year.

I heard that they might start the season late this year and change all the dates for the games.

So far it looks as if Boston is the only team that wont play in 2008. I guess their expansion year has just been pushed back to 2009.

It will be interesting to see what they do with all of the players that Boston has. Will they have a dispersal draft just to follow up with another expansion draft? Will they retain the rights but let them sign one year free agent contracts? I can't think of a good way to address this.

It looks like Arizona may not play next year as well. Link
The cancellation/restart probably didn't help, but it does sound like this would have happened sooner or later anyway. It's too bad, because they are a good team. Instead of awarding expansion franchises, I'd rather they just have a waiting list for moving teams. A team folds every year or two.

And yet, somehow, San Jose is apparently still in. Go figure.
