Flyers 2 Penguins 5
The Flyers opened the season against a very good Penguins team and completely disappointed their fans and GM. The Flyers didn’t play well early getting down by two goals for the second game in a row. They continued their poor play in the second giving up two more goals. After giving up the fifth goal of the game Ted Nolan finally pulled Hasek who has been brutal early on in this season. The game was costly to the Flyers in the injury department as well as both Kevin Bieksa and Teemu Selanne left the game with injuries.
It is early in the season but it is clear to see the frustration on GM Moon’s face after the game:
“We were a little wary of this game as we knew how good the Penguins are, but there is no excuse for a team with our talent to lose at home and certainly not to get blown out. 5 goals today, 4 goals last game are way too many to be giving up. You can expect some line combo changes for next game and if things don’t change soon perhaps line-up changes as well.”
The Flyers have four days off before travelling back to Washington to face the Capitals for the second time this year.
Farm report:
The Phantoms continued on their offensive ways as they played to a 6-6 tie with Scranton. Gilbert Brule and Matt Ellison lead the way with a goal and an assist each and Chris Holt became the latest goalie in the Flyers organization that has shown an inability to save much.
