Having signatures is wicked in my opinion. I love making them, and I love sporting mine. It makes it much easier to find a certain person in a thread. I personally look for particular posters that I find more interesting or that have a good handle on things usually.

It doesn't detract from the reading IMO.

Nothing wrong with a relatively small graphic. The problem is with large ones (or many side by side!!) AND then a novel of a sig. Or even just the novel. Can't tell you how many times I have read a one word post only to keep reading into the sig quote.

Any way to force sigs to a smaller font?

That's why I made mine smaller, so it is obvious it is a sig.

Yeah my personal preference would be 125px or even less, but if we change it that's a lot of sigs to go remove

Perhaps a graphic OR text. The text under graphics really seem to make things large.

While we're on the topic of signatures, is there a way to extend the little horizontal line that separates the post from the sig? It's always bothered me that it only comes out part way, I dont know why. Can it go the whole way?

I've seen forums where it goes the whole way and I think it causes too much separation (i.e. too many horizontal lines), and removing it makes it confusing with text only sigs. Plus it's a template thing and changes to templates software upgrades more time consuming and difficult (as the changes have to be migrated).

That signature is brutal!

Also I saw another person suggested text only sigs and I don't like that idea personally. As long as its not huge its fine, because MattyC only has text and its worse than anything I have ever seen

What's the proper protocol to report large sigs - in this thread or 'report a post'?

You can report it.. I've been meaning to make some wording to limit the sizes but haven't got around to it.

Is there any way to disable avatars and signatures for people who browse CP without logging in?

If possible, I think it'd be a good thing for people who browse from work without having to adjust their screens to hide the scantily clad women in people's avatars like Shawnki's Canada girl.
