They were charters for tour compaines.

They keep looking at Kamloops but something about the airport infrastructure the last I read is the main stumbling block. Also Kamloops isnt as widely known as Kelowna so WestJet would be taking a leap of faith that they would be able to generate the traffic.

Kelowna vs Kamloops seems eerily familiar to Banff vs Jasper.

God I hope they fly to Kamloops soon. Those idiots at Air Canada lost our luggage at christmas and didn't give a rats ass about it. Besideds, any cheaper alternative to driving would be welcome

Kamloops is a very strong union town too....another reason why WestJet isn't exactly keen to go there. Also many in Kamloops still hold the idea that Vancouver is only 3 hours away on the Coquihalla, and most people in Kamloops don't want to go anywhere but Vancouver. It's sort of like why they won't go into Red Deer because why go there and set up when you have two other markets that they service that are very close.

I'm a Kamloopsian and looking to move back...but I have to admit that the excessive union mentality of that town has totally held that city back while Kelowna took off and exploded. Although the protectionism faction of Kamloops is probably happy that no one dared invade their city and that they still sort of have it all to themselves.

I think the reason they do not go to Red Deer is you would very virtually no out of province traffic. With Kelowna they have a summer direct to Toronto because you can sell Kelowna as a destination.

You cannot do that with Red Deer.
