As far as I know, there aren't really any outlet malls in the Spokane/CdA area (was looking at this a few days ago), but others can certainly pipe in. At least not like the Seattle Premium outlets and others in the greater Seattle area, that's for sure.
They do have a Nordstrom Rack in Spokane, which might fit the bill if your wife is looking for clothing and shoes. There is also the Ross/TJ Maxx type stores (like Winners) as well.

If your talking the premium Outlets like the eastern seaboard has you'll have to go to Washington:
http://www.premiumoutlets.com/centers/index.asp
We go to the Outlet in Pennsylvania, no taxes and always at least 50% less than what we'd find it for here in Ontario.

I was at The Crossing in PA a few weeks ago and was not overly impressed with the prices.

It's looking like it's just as chap for me to fly to vegas for a long weekend and shop there than it is to fly to seattle and stay there... CASINOS HERE I COME?

That Premium Outlet mall has pretty much gone under. They've got a Cabella's! Closest outlet shopping is in the Seattle area.
I believe there is also outlet shopping in Park City, UT, but that's a 15 hour drive.

Remember, also, that if you go shopping in WA, tell them you're an Alberta resident, and you won't have to pay the state sales tax.

Just to confirm another post...
I was in Couer D'lane 2 weeks ago and the Outlet mall area in Post falls is pretty much a ghost town..
We did our shopping at the Spokane Valley Mall and got everything we needed.
No State sales tax and when the Visa bill came it was less than bought due to the good Canadian $$$ these days.
Declared it all when we crossed back and was told to have a nice day and welcome back to Canada...

It is a long drive, and Reno is far from the "little Vegas" it claims to be. The drive is great if you like the desert, but it is around 8 hrs+ from Reno to Vegas, with almost literally nothing in between but ghost towns like Scotty's Castle, or brothels/casinos in towns like Tonopah. Not much to see in Tonopah. You could take a side trip to Death Valley, see some spectacular desert scenery, but the trip will take you at least a full day.
In my mind, Death Valley would be a much better destination than Reno. That town is a hole. If you really, really wanted to drive from Vegas somewhere, I'd pick LA. Closer to Vegas than Reno is, only 4 hours to Los Angeles.

Unfortunately this is an outlet mall shopping trip... Just trying to make the wife happy and hit some good outlet malls. Any suggestions for vegas malls? I see they have "Las Vegas Premium Outlets".... I assume this is similar to the "Seattle Premium Outlets" that my wife likes...

My divorce cost me close to 200,000 but it was worth every penny never to have to drive 2 hours to go to a mall again.

The Las Vegas Premium outlets is the best to go to - Coach, Lacoste, Ann Klein - the types of things a lady would need for a European vacation. Get a good deal to stay on the strip and flag down any cab and tell them you want the premium outlets, as its too far to walk.

Would I be better to rent a car for $200 for $5 for shopping (assume shopping 3 of the days) or are cabs cheap there?
Should I start a continuing vegas 'pro-tips' thread?

There's a bus that runs out there. Just make sure you get on the express bus. And the premium mall is in the north.

There is a premium to the North of the strip and one to the South but the only one I would bother with would be the newer one to the North. Outlets still have some great deals but not as good as the glory days of 3-4 years ago! Not sure if they all do this and it wasn't in Las Vegas, but on 4th of July some shops had an additional 50% off on everything in the store That was a good day! Got most of the kids back to school done in one day!
