Hmm... good bump. Been wondering when this'll happen for a while. Or, at least wondering when Calgary would be up there. Wasn't there some legality with Canada as to why they couldn't put it up?

Ya, I saw this news and immediately looked up my place. Had a good moment then quickly checked out the strip joints down the block.

What a waste of time and energy on our governments behalf. Just be glad that Google did decide to come to these selected cities.

I believe Google has the go ahead to do street view. I read an article yesterday about how they worked with all the provinces privacy commisioners to come up with policy that appeased all sides and their concerns.....I can't wait!

I noticed that this is an old thread, but I just Google'd "street view in Calgary" and apparently they are going to be going around taking pictures within the next little while.

Google still hasn't put up any street view pictures of Calgary yet, so did they just go around taking photos back in 2007 and never use them? Why would they come back now and take more? I'm confused. Haha.

Doesn't look like they've added any coverage in Canada yet. USA (even Alaskan cities), much of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan are covered.

I used to develop software for the company that created the technology. Google's implementation is as still pictures, but the cameras actually capture it as full-motion video. It's pretty cool when you view it that way, it's like you're sitting on the car (or under the helicopter, or walking around) while it moves along and you can look around.

In case any fellow nerds are interested, the camera is about the size of a cantaloupe, and has 11 lenses pointing in all directions (the 12th one would be where the mount is). The genius of the system is stitching the 11 video images together into a seamless mosaic.

Sounds like we could see something launched in the next few weeks.

My buddy was out and happened to catch him driving around his community a few weeks ago, so he took a few pictures. It's too bad they're taking pictures now. It would look much better in the summer time when everything isn't so dirty and brown:

That's not exactly a subtle apparatus on top.

On a related topic, I think they have updated the images on google maps... our townhouse now has grass around it (although our street is still not listed yet )

A google car has actually been here in Saint John for the last couple of weeks for street view.. Actually passed it on the way into the office this morning. I am actually suprised they are doing SJ and none of the other NB cities at this point.

The plates were from California. That thing on their roof was the camera - it had a bunch of wires from it going in the backseat window on the driver's side.

So if anyone sees a Chevy Cobalt with California plates and something strapped on the roof, be sure to wave!

westnet wireless also does it for google, seen their ford 150, as ab plates.

The Google Street View car was driving North on Macleod (at 42nd Ave)today. I don't know why seeing it got me excited, but it did.

Given how many BMW drivers are on the roads in this city, there is already a pretty good chance that you will see an ass on Streetview.
