Actually thats not true. They rebuilt the CPU, reducing the size, power requirements and therefore the heat it outputs.

Any xbox made by the end of september (i think) is using the new processor.

Well since we are not close to the end of September my statement is valid. One thing to note is MS would probably want to get rid of all their old stock based on the old chips before they even start selling the newer versions so chances of you getting an Xbox based on the small processors in the near future is slim.

Your statement is valid because its not the end of september yet? Geez get off your high horse, who cares if the new fixes in the 360's are a bit away, at least they will be fixed.

How am I on my 'high horse'? I came into this thread trying to help with questions you had about the RRoD on your XBox 360 as I am going through the exact same thing with mine. I apologize for coming off like that.

My whole point was that yes, they will be fixed but it will take a long time for the consumer to actually get a fixed version. Not the best way to do business.

Did you talk to MS like I suggested? They should be able to get you reimbursed for the extended warranty you purchased, and guide you through thre return/repair process. A friend of mine had his 360 brick on him, and he had a replacement the next day and a 6 year warranty. Seriously, give MS a call.

The new chipset 360s are not on shelves yet, that I've seen. Look for premiums with HDMI outs to at least know you've got the improved heatsink. The new chipsets have been rumored as being on the verge of retail for months - but likely won't change the red ring of death problem anyway. My understanding is that the GPU not the CPU that causes the problem, and the GPU is not going to the new chipset/being made using the 65 nm or whatever processing. You shouldn't see red ring problems on Elites or new Premiums, as MS has changed the compound used to keep the GPU in place. Combined with the new heatsink, we shouldn't see the chips pop put of place and cause as many problems as there have been in the first 18 months.

And you should all buy Wiis anyway.

Hmm so wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy Ps3 instead of Xbox because I plan to get NHL 08 and it would suck to keep paying for internet play for xBox

Xbox Live is something like $50 for a year. It doesn't add a lot of extra cost, especially when you're talking about several hundreds of dollars up front for a console, games and accessories.

What do you mean several hundreds of dollars up front for a console, games and accessories? Don't you have to buy those for Xbox as well?

I heard from a friend that EB Games allows you to trade in 10 games and you get a PS3 for $350~

How much is an Xbox 360?

I mean $50 a year for online shouldn't make a dent in a decision to purchase any console. Considering that for any console that once you've bought the system, a game, and an extra controller or whatever extra accessories you deem necessary (extra controller, online dongle, memory card, whatever), you're looking at an investment of at least $400, if not more like $600 or so. To spend that much money but then to balk at a $50/year charge seems decidedly odd to me.

Haha, I wonder how many people select the "Get it repaired option". What did they do with the hard drive? Did they just let you swap them or did you loose all your saved games? Also, doesyour warranty get applied to your new console as well?

Congrats on the new XBox 360. Take a look at this site to determine whether or not you have the additional heat sink:

As long as you have that you *should* be good.

But I'm pretty positive now that your extended warranty is now over at BB. From what I understand, you get to use it once and that's it. Same as Futures Shop I believe. You should still get the 3 years from MS though for 3 RROD.

I think there are different levels of Xbox Live including a free one. Not sure on the details.

I had to give up the extended warranty which is fine, I get a new xbox new 1 year warranty and still the 3 years coverage by microsoft. Plus I got a new game as well it came with Forza 2.

except that NHL08 on PC will be crap compared to the console versions, as EA has no competition on the PC side, so cheaps out with them by not giving all the features and doesn't develop things as much as they do with console. It's been that way for a few years now, unfortunately

I think I'm going to go with the PS3, since really all I want it for is hockey games, and with PS3 I get a choice between NHL08 or NHL2K8, or I can buy both if I want. Plus from what I'm reading the PS3 is more likely to last longer than a 360. I'll probably end up with a 360 somewhere down the line, but for now I'm thinking PS3 is the way to go.
