BTW, one thing I should add, going to court is expensive.
VERY expensive. It's not as quick as you would like to think,
or what they show on TV/movies.
I was told, just to do a basic fight over property would cost
upwards of $10,000. Over $5,000 used property. Plus you get
to have your name raked over, slandered, insulted, angered,
and anything else you can think of. You did something
really embarrassing that you would never think of telling your
friends? It'll come out, on a public record no less.
Most lawyers do not want to go to court, except to say something
along the lines of, "These two want a divorce, meet requirements,
and have amicably settled property and child issues. Judge, please
sign here?"
Very very few actually want to go to fight.
