Oh I agree. In fact that's what I've done as well, just log into steam and download all the games I want on their and come back in a couple hours. Yeah I was in the same boat as you, and never understood why I had to load up steam to load up Counter-Strike. But a couple games later and it's basically your game manager, quite convenient. I do all my gaming, except for Bioshock on Steam, and I think you can even get Bioshock on Steam now.

that's how i bought it. no driving 20 minutes to best-buy only to find they don't have any in stock, no waiting in lines when you do find a copy, no discs to swap out during installation, no need to worry about downloading patches. every game should be on steam

I also like what they've done with steam community and how it's directly integrated into TF2. Before I never used the "friend" system, but after the latest upgrade where you can access it from in-game I found it to be extremely helpful. I also love the whole distribution format. My friend was playing TF2 one night and I decided right then to get it, DLed it in 30 mins, and I was up and running in an hour. Very nice.
As for TF2, a couple things really piss me off. The 20 second spawn timer is a bit excessive imo, I think it should be cut in half to 10 seconds or so. There aren't enough good maps to play - I only like gravelpit and dustbowl. The sudden death mechanic still needs tweaking.
However, I love the style and the Valve maps really accentuate it. The classes are very well balanced. If you play it casually, you'll find a lot of situations that just make you laugh. I wouldn't take it too seriously though, because in pubs, it'll just suck the fun right out.

lol, Friends didn't work in Steam for a long time. I got it at the beginning and for two years Friends didn't work. I guess they finally got around to fixing it.

Ya, been counting the hours here as well. But I'm going for Episode 2 and Portal as I've been playing TF2 for a while now. Although... there will be an influx of noobs now. hmmmmm. To take advantage or not?

Wow, just finished the core Portal game... short but excellent. Short is good as making it longer would detract from it I think.

lol! Normally yes, though a product we're launching is going through certification today so basically just hanging around to fix any bugs that come up.

Anyone know if the xbox version is worth getting? I'm thinking my next PC will be a Mac so I don't want to get stuck with Steam.

Most reviews are happy with it with one review mentioning minor issues. But if you're going to be playing TF2 at all, you will want PC version. It's more open to developement of new levels, mods, etc.

Played TF2(360) for maybe an hour now. I'm not really all that impressed. Maybe it was my bad team.

Finished portal yesterday and i can honestly say that was probably the oddest game i've ever played. Very funny, very entertaining and creates a good atmosphere in the later levels.

Not that bad actually, I found most of the levels to be pretty straight forward, only a few times did I get stuck for a while.
The advanced levels are pretty cool. This screams for user-created levels.

I really only got stuck a few times on the later levels thinking "how the hell am I gonna do that?" It wasn't too bad. Most people should be able to figure it out. All the maps are solvable using normal portal techniques. I didn't cheat or use no clip or anything like that. It's a very interesting game. And a MP deathmatch portal game would be insane.
