No, but with so many walks, it is easy for there to be more runs than hits. ie:

Batter A walks
Batter B walks, batter A to 2nd base
Batter C Homers.

Three runs, one hit.

Well the fact that there was a double header that day had something to do with it. The Orioles proably decided when they were down about 10-3 that they didnt' want to use any of their good relievers and left their bums in there to try and get outs a lot longer than they normally would. They likely tried to save their better guys for the second game.

Doesnt it suck to be Micheal Young and the other guy who had ZERO RBIs?

Your team scores 30 and you drive in nothing, thats almost impossible...

Adam Loewen was on the morning show on TEAM 1040 today, they asked him if after a while it just got funny, his answer: "nope"

30-3 will be well over many NFL scores this year.

I agree. The Bears are always good for an ol' fashioned 6-3 win in horrible fall weather on either Monday or Sunday night. I loath those games. You get all fired up and excited for football on a cold night and then Urlacher's stifling defense and Grossman's terrible offense put you right to sleep.

When I saw the score on the ticker I thought it was an NFL, then I realized that no NFL team would be playing so I skipped it back to be in shock over what I was reading, thinking the Score must have made a mistake and it was a 0-3 for the O's. The Texas freakin' Rangers what the....

Sorry to bump this thread back up, but I rarely check this board.

When Littleton came into the game in the bottom of the 7th it was already 14-3 for Texas. How is this a save?? I'm not a huge baseball fan but doesn't it have to be a close game (3 runs?) for the pitcher to get a save?

EDIT: Rule 10.19 of the Rules of Baseball

The official scorer shall credit a pitcher with a save when such pitcher meets all four of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team; OK, Check
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; Check
(3) He is credited with at least a third of an inning pitched; and Check again
(4) He satisfies one of the following conditions:

(a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches at least one inning; Nope
(b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat or on deck; or Nope
(c) He pitches for at least three innings. Ohhhhh....

So no matter what the score is, if the guy pitched three innings he gets a save? Never heard of that before... learn something new every day.

Sorry again for bumping this... and then answering my own question! hah

It certainly does if you've got him on a fantasy team.

Wait a second, does this make sense to anyone else?

In order to finish the game you have to end on an out, which would count as 1/3 of an inning. So isn't rule Rule 10.19(3) a redundancy of rule Rule 10.19(1)?

PS: Is redundancy a real word, or did I just make that up?

Theoretically a pitcher could get hurt with 0-2 count with 2 outs in the ninth. If another pitcher came in and struck the batter out, the K would be credited to the injured pitcher. The last pitcher would have 0 innings pitched, with 0 batters faced (officially) but would have completed a game. And I guess would not be eligble for the save.

Seems pointless.

One scenario would be RAIN.
For example the home team is up 6-4 in the top of the 9th. The closer comes in but can't record an out (ie..walking the first 2 guys) and then it rains hard. The game is called off, the closer finished the game but didn't record an out so he doesn't get the save.
