I used to love the Canadian one called The Newsroom. Some of the same guys who went on to do made in Canada.

Samurai Jack is an amazing animated show, incredible visuals. There would be entire episodes that would have only a half dozen lines of dialog in them. I think it's been cancelled (or at least is on hiatus). Even when it was on TV, it was only on Friday nights at 11:30.

Six Feet Under is very good, as far as dramas go.
The Newsroom was such an awesome show. He (Finkleman) hasn't come close to that one. Twitch City was also a good CBCer that we all paid for.

In other news, today seems to be the day that the OT board officially takes over.

- American Gothic

I used to love that show! Haven't thought about it in years, but when I was probably sixteen or so, it was one of my favorites.
Ditto...great show with Lundberg of Office Space fame. And that kid from Slingblade. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmhmmm! [/b][/quote]
Don't know if you noticed it or not but if you've seen Friday Night Lights, the QB is the kid from American Gothic/Sling Blade.

I haven't seen it yet, but that's great news. I mentioned to my wife after Slingblade that he was getting to the point (age wise) that he was going to have to make that transition from that persona he had as a kid to a regular adult actor and it would be especially tough for someone with such a recognizable aura.

Good for him.

Yup. And he's very good in Friday night Lights (which is a great movie overall). I barely recognized him - it was his voice that I recognized. Even though its much deeper now it still has that "Kaleb" drawl to it. I still wasn't sure though so I had to wait around and watch the credits. Sure enough it was him.

Country star Tim McGraw is also very good in the movie. Who'd a thunk?

Here's some for you Ag...

The Young Ones....British Comedy with Rik Mayall...absolutely hilarious. You can buy "Every Stoopid Episode" on DVD...like I just did.

SciFi you say?

Millenium.....I loved that show. It was created by Chris Carter (X-Files). Beautifully filmed and scored (Mark Snow, also of X-files). Stars Lance Henrikksen and one of my favorite TV actors, Terry O'Quinn (he's on Lost now). I don't want to give the plot away...but I think you'd like it. Great stuff. Newly out on DVD.

You said hidden gems, but since some people have mentioned shows like 6' Under and Curb Your Enthusiasm, I'll mention another that certainly isn't hidden. 24, I didn't watch the first 3 seasons at all....but have watched the first 2 on DVD (3rd due out DEC 7) over the last couple of months and was thoroughly swallowed up by it. Great stuff...especially for conspiracy theorists such as yourself! :P :P :P
Was Millenium the show w/ Bishop from Aliens? I recall it being on a while ago on the Space channel...

I've always been fascinated by 24, and heard that it was fantastic, but its always struck me as the show you _have_ to watch from start to finish, every episode in order. That kind of scares me off, because I don't have access to the DVD's, nor the inclination to plan the next 12 months of my life around watching each show in order on TV.

Is 24 worth buying the DVD set?

Yup. Millenium is with Bishop from Aliens.

I think 24 is over-rated. I loved the first season but by midway through the 2nd I grew tired of the show's many many plot twists. It lost its sense of realty in my view. I don't watch it anymore, but I know lots of people love it still.

Hidden Hills was really good.

And of course, Mr. Show. I have just recently been introduced to that one, as well as David Cross's comedy/stand-up/black brand of humour, and I must say I love it. Only watched parts of the season 2 Mr. Show DVD, but it's great.

And being one of the biggest Tom Green fans on the planet, of course, every incarnation of the unbelievably influential Tom Green Show. It really did help thrust reality TV into the mainstream, and gave rise to several similar-themed shows like Jackass and Fear Factor. Good stuff.

That's why I was scared away too Ag. We actually watched season one over a two day weekend. It was that intense. I think the show is worth buying on DVD, but maybe you should rent the first season first and watch it over a short period of time before deciding whether you like enough to buy it.

We have tivo now so the goal is to get season 3 watched before season 4 starts in January.

These may not be the types of shows you're looking for, but people who have read the board for a while know I'm a huge fan of the Frontline documentaries on PBS. The good thing (in addition to them being commercial free) is that if you miss one it can be viewed in it's entirety Online

Along those same lines, Charlie Rose is a great source of discussion of current events. It's mainly political/world events, but he regularly has entertainers on for much more indepth interviews than you'll see anywhere else. And again, it's one hour completely commercial free.

FYI, tonight Charlie has Bill "The (Alleged ) Vibrating Sexual-Assaulter" O'Reilly on. Could be good

Wow, that Frontline link is sweet. I wish the video would stream a little better, but still, thats really cool.

Charlie Rose is pretty awsome, I saw an amazing interview of his with Robert Macnamarra and the guy who directed Fog of War, it was intense.

Passionate Eye is usually worthwhile too, someone mentioned it above.

As for Sci-Fi, Farscape is a great show.

MXC on Spike is probably one of most consistanly funny shows around. I caan even watch the re-runs and laugh as hard as I did the first time around.

Mythbusters is an unkown show on Discovery that is excellent. Informative, funny and interesting. Great mix.

The sight seems slow right now, but it's not hard to find some time when it's running smoothly and the video's stream perfectly fine.

"Undeclared". It had one season a couple years ago and was cancelled. I thought it was great, as did everyone I talked to who had seen it.
