I might to have to go with the 360 version.
THe PC version requires 2GB ram - 1GB just dedicated to video.

2GB is recommended, 1GB is the minimum. What concerns me more is the recommendation for a video card, 512MB!

I'm just going to pick it up for my 360.

There is a demo for the PC. You could download and give it a try and see how it runs. My video card is Nvidia 7900GS 256 MB and runs very smooth everything maxed except DX10 since I'm running XP.

Edit: I looked up the requirements and the key thing you really need is a video card that has shader model 3.0 support.

BioShock Download Minimum System Requirements

Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Vista
2.5GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent
1.0 GB RAM
Pixel Shader 3.0 compliant video card with 128 MB RAM and floating point frame buffer blending
100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
7.0 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c or DirectX 10

BioShock Download Recommended System Requirements

Windows XP (SP 2) or Windows Vista
3.0 GHz dual core processor
2.0 GB RAM
Pixel Shader 3.0 compliant video card with 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT or better)
100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
7.0 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c or DirectX 10

Not saying that this game isn't great looking and fun...but the genre is in danger of getting a little stale
That's where Bioshock is different. It is AI oriented so that all of the creatures or people have personalities and their own jobs and often ignore you unless you get in the way of their lives. Part of the game is surviving by making morality choices in who you support and basically turning the creatures on each other. You can make everybody fight each other if you want to while you stay in the shadows.

Now, it's not as cool as it sounds but I just wanted to point out that Bioshock from the beginning aims to be very different in the FPS genre insofar as npcs and your interaction with them.

The game just gets so much better when they bring in the Little Sisters and the Big Daddy. Holy crap, it's fun to get a whole bunch of Splicers hammering on the one Big Daddy and watching him kick their asses.

Wow, downloaded the pc demo today and I'm amazed. Graphics are the best I have seen and it runs great on my semi old pc with all settings on high (1680x1050). AMD 64 3.2 GHz with 2GB ram and 256mb 8600GT graphics (min requirement for dx10). I'd say I'm getting 20 fps, so anyone with a dual-core chip would be in the clear.

One problem I'm getting is choppy sound during graphic intense battles or movements. I'm thinking it's because of the built-in sound on the motherboard using resources. I should porbably look into a hardware sound card.

I had to disable the EAX setting on the game, I was getting bad stuttering and crackly sound (though not in any other game).

I bought both at the same time yesterday. Haven't had a chance to crack either one of them yet, and I'm already going through withdraw simptoms.

I bought the 360 version last night. I have only played a couple hours so far, but in that I have been very, very impressed. I am not really sure how to describe this game, apart from saying it has atmosphere. I mean it really does. I don't think I've played a game that has come close to the atmosphere that this game creates. It's pretty early, but I would say this is the best game I own for my 360.

The controls are what you would expect from a console playing a FPS. If I had the choice I would have bought it for my computer, but I am not confident it would have have been able to do a good job running it. I always find the controls on a console clumsy as compared to a mouse. But it doesn't really detract that much from the game. It has a built in auto aim, but it still takes some skill to pull off good shots.

I downloaded Bioshock off of steam yesterday, and practically stayed up until 3am playing it. Like Burninator said, its got an incredibly intense atmosphere. Nothing like playing it in the dark, with headphones on, and the window open so theres a slight breeze, talk about creeeeepy!

Do you have a pci sound card? If you do, then I guess I'll hold off on getting one in order to fix my suttering. Must be another issue then.

I have to agree with other people here, the thing that sets this game apart from others of the genre is the intense atmosphere. The incredible setting helps too. So far, I've been very impressed.

I was going to buy it on PC but not now after reading this:
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...617#post120617
and many other threads.

It's also on Steam:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...d.php?t=589874

Was hoping to play with keyboard and mouse but I'll have to play with a gamepad on the 360. But I'm not sure if I want to support a company that uses such a practice to protect their games. It's not unsimilar to boycotting Sony for their DRM practices.

Wow... just wow. Definetely won't be picking it up now. Thanks for pointing this out as I was going to buy it, then upgrade my pc when I have the money. I also format my pc now and then, so I would have been SOL. Only on page 11 of 27 in that thread, but I'm already angry.

Downloaded the 360 demo yesterday, and tried it today. Interesting game, not really my cup of tea, but it does look brilliant.

I finally got a copy, and after playing a bit, it seems a little more linear than I expected. Otherwise its got a pretty good story, and I am developing a fear of little girls.
