What company are you with? That would help with finding a phone as every carrier sells different phones and you cant bring over phones company to company

DO NOT GET A CHOCOLATE!!! I got one for my daughter and it was the worst piece of electronic junk we've ever had in the house. It started with the battery needing to be recharged every two days ... and then every day. Then it started missing calls ... then that became the rule rather than exception. Finally the screen go so messed up it could not display text in a legible fashion. This all occurred within 30 days of receiving it. When I called to get it replaced they were originally only going to replace it with another Chocolate even though I wanted to switch to something different ... it turned out they (Rogers) were out of stock with the Chocolate and couldn't get any more shipped in from Singapore or wherever beause of "some techinical difficulties" with the phone. I ended up getting a KRAZR to replace it with, and it seems to function well ... so does the RAZR we have in the family. My advice is to stay as far away from a Chocolate as you can get.

i think i've narrowed it down to 2 phones...
Samsung m510:
http://www.samsung.com/ca/products/v...m510bkaspr.asp
Samsung m610:
http://www.samsung.com/ca/products/v...m610daabmc.asp
i think im kinda leaning towards the 610 cause it has better picture quality... and according to my friend the 510 is "girly" (i disagree).
and the 150$ thing i sorted out... i get 150$ off the price of the phone and then have to get a 36month contract with it... so i'll still be paying about 180-200$ for these phones.
any experience with either of these phones?

Well I can now assume you are with Bell, $150 credit for signing 3 years? That doesn't seem like a lot considering when I was there they would give $250 for 3 years.
How much time do you have left on your contract now?
I would go with the m610 if you have the money over the m510, I have heard great things about it from friends who work there. Stay away from the Chocolate it is crap, poor voice, quality low reception, no expandable memory, so on so on.
Accordoing to the internal employee page you should be eligable for another offer for an extra $50 off until Sept 30 for all new and existing customers who sign a 36 month term.
The following are the select mobile phones available for this offer:
· Samsung m500
· Samsung m510
· Samsung m610
· LG Fusic
· Motorola KRZR
So make sure the sales consultant gives that to you!
Also what are you paying right now monthly and what are you getting? I can find out what unadvertised offer is out that might save you some $$$

My guess is that he has a fairly long time on his current contract; like 12-18 months. Any time I've seen an offer like that it's because there is still time left on the contract.
Which is why I don't get why everybody is so quick to jump onto a contract. Is it really worth $4 per month to be stuck with your next phone and the same carrier for the next 3 years?

After working in cellular for 3 years I would say NO it is not worth it, if you have the money to just buy a phone and go month to month then thats the way I would go.
Most likely within 3 years you are going to want a new phone or something is going to happen to your phone. I would say a good 30-35% of all phones that were sold from any store I worked at would be back with issues because of poor quality they were built.
But many people that would come into the stores would be so excited about free phones they don't actually sit back and do the math on it. I personally will NEVER sign a contract with any type of company weather its a cell phone, internet, gym or whatever...leave your options open and pay the little extra to hold some power if you want to or have to leave.

If you are still having to pay 180 to 200 dollars and sign a 3 year contract, I would consider switching to a gsm network provider (rogers or fido). You have a greater range of phones to choose from (carrier phones and imported phones), you can unlock or buy an unlocked phone to use all over the world, and I find it easier to sell a gsm phone.
What kind of features are you looking for? Camera? Music? For 200 dollars dollars, there are other options out there with far more value (ie the Sony Ericsson k790a with rogers for 179.99 on a 3 year contract).

Well I think the problem with him is he is still in contract, so what they are letting him do is resign into a 3 year contract and then they will void the one that he still has remaining, otherwise he has to pay the cancellation charge.
Also I have heard nothing but bad about the Sony line from every rep I know at rogers. However I have no personal experience with it just going on what I have heard from the people that sell it. They say they get a lot back with problems.
If he was a brand new customer walking off the street he would only pay $99 for that same phone, but they are letting him out of a contract to resign another one so they are not going to give him the same type of deal.
Personally I don't like GSM it is an old technology and can not hold nearly as many calls as a CDMA network let alone have nearly the same amount of power or speed. There is a reason cell phone companies in places like Japan switched from GSM to CDMA. Security of your personal information would be just one of many.

Now you guys tell me not to buy a chocolate
I just got one on the weekend, though I had no intention as my Samsung
packed it in so I returned it to best buy. They had no Samsung's(my model anyways)in stock so the guy upgraded to a chocolate(flip, not slide)
and I jumped all over it.
The battery seems great(way better than the Samsung)and the
only downside seems to be the gloss finish and the smudge marks.
Having said all that I'm glad I extended the warranty by 2 years for $40(something I nver do but I have bad luck with cell phones).
Time will tell I guess but so far I like the chocolate.
