We are know we can choose a different service provider but how can they justify a $35 charge on an item worth $50. They should work on maybe a percentage with small amounts like that.
I actually have successfully gotten my company to switch away from using UPS for anything because of their customer service and ridiculous broker fees.
Also you can't say that they are aligned when someone above posted DHL only charging $7 and the last item I got from Fedex they only charged me a $12 brokerage fee on a $900 item.

i dont work for UPS, they are actually a competitor. I have been a senior level manager in the industry for over 15 years though.
Depends on the mode of transit as well. if that FDX shipment came by ground, the charge is cheaper than by air. it is justified because the cost of facility and oeprations are much cheaper off airport. anything coming in at an airport costs more and takes longer to clear. its just the way the industry is set up.
i would suggest to not use UPS either, I just took issue with the comment it was a scam. its not, its a charge for a service provided.
