As for the "famous for being famous" thing, doesn't that describe most of teh celebrities that were on games shows? Most did something that made a bit of a splash, but then parlayed that into many appearances for just being themselves.
Jaye P Morgan (Gong Show), Charles Nelson Riley (Match Game), JoAnne Worley (Match Game, Chain Reaction, Super Password)
Most had some noteriety (Morgan had a few minor hit songs, CNR was on Broadway, Worley still turns up on some TV shows as guest star), but I have heard all of the described as "famous for being famous" since many people know who they are, but very few people can actually list anything that they did to actually earn fame.

Not only is the man a respected (and wealthy) businessman and entrepreneur in the pro sports, hotel, and gambling industries, but he was a former serviceman in WWII, and is also a long-time donator to many charities and is a philanthropist, who has even been recognized by Pope John Paul II himself.
I'd say a man of his credentials has probably seen many types of people in his life, and has every reason to speak down on his self-absorbed granddaughter. I agree with im completely. She's making a mockery of the Hilton name, even if she is making money doing it.

I don't like to give Paris much credit. It's tough to admire someones business skills who has slimed their way to the top. She has done little to contribute to society in a positive way. Like Ozy said, she is singly handedly dumbing down society. She is so much wrong with American culture, but yet is embraced like a hero. I don't see what there is to admire or commend.
Even though she has made millions of dollars and is always claiming that she did it on her own, it's not really true. Think of the giant head start she got because of her status, wealth, connections before she starting doing it on her own. To say she did it on her own and ammased her own wealth is a huge stretch.
I can understand where her grandfather is coming from. He is from a much, much different generation than Paris. When the family name and respect actually meant something. Paris has single handedly (again) tarnished the Hilton name. When people say Hilton, chances are they don't think of the nice line of international hotels. They think of this...
Booting her out of the family may not be accurate. Obviously we don't know the details of their relationship, but chances are Paris doesn't spend much time with him. Just because you have the family name entitles you to 60 million dollars? I hardly think so. She has done nothing to help the Hilton hotel chain, in fact her actions have only been damaging to the name. As I stated above. This should be a wake up call for Paris, but sadly I doubt it will change much. The life she lives will likely go no where but down.

Wow, you people actually think this "business savvy" is her doing?
I wonder how much she pays her manager(s), agent(s), publicist(s), and god knows who else? You think she sits around pushing pencils all day?
Get real, she does nothing but provide the image and the receptacle for booze and dick.

She's smart enough to hire people smarter than her as marketing experts. Seriously, Capn Crunch is right. You don't have to respect it but she has successfully built a brand, a strange one admittedly, that has reaped millions . . . . for some reason.
Which reminds me of an episode of the Partridge Family where Danny Bonaduce wants to quit school because a millionaire self-made executive he knows never finished school . . . . so why bother? The executive sits him down and tells Danny that he's successful because he's surrounded himself with people with university degrees who are smarter than he is . . . and that finishing school, therefore, is definitely worthwhile.
Of course, this thread probably could have done without a reference to an early 1970's schlock show but damn, Mrs. Partridge was hot.

You realize, don't you, that every time she gets mentioned in print, in the broadcast media or on some Internet forum her value goes up just a little bit. She becomes a little more bankable for public appearances and the like. You just helped to put a few more coins in her bank account. Hey, so did I. Crap! I hate her.

How much is really her doing though, CP?
If Bill Gates' daughter went off the deep end and did the things Paris was doing, I guess you could say they built a 'brand', and hers would likely be as successful as the Hilton one.
This is nothing more than watching a rich kid in a trainwreck. Someone from a successful family embarrassing themselves across America. She basically took a family name and ran it through the mud.
