Time to see what Akili's got:

Anyways, I really think Higgins should try Smith next game. I am not sure if he would an improvement as he too was very inconsistent during his relief. Maybe it is because he was not expected to play. If Akili bombs, then at least we find out and they can release the guy and find someone else. Also, if SMith bombs and Burris still makes stupid mistakes then I guess it is time to get rid of the guy. We could trade him to Montreal for Calvillo even though the guy is struggling. I can't name any other QB that is worth picking up.

What do you think?

I think thats a great idea..let Smith in for a game with burris watching from the sidelines, i think this could be a great learning experince for him..but let him know they'll go back to him next game no matter what, dont want to hurt this dudes cofidence

I blame this one on the combination of the offensive line and play-calling more-so than Burris. BC was generally not rushing too hard and instead dropping linebackers back into pass coverage... they were just reading Burris and trying to anticipate everything. No surprise that there were several ints. When you've got the ball in the fourth and trailing by less than a touchdown, there's no real urgency or need to abandon the run. Run the ball, keep the linebackers honest, and the short passes will open up. Instead, Burris was constantly trying to make the long (10 yard +) pass because the short pass coverage was always so tight. I'm a big fan of Cortez, but the offensive scheme this year is almost reminding me of Jenkins' offensive schemes that totally ignored the run. Obviously, it's Burris who is responsible for throwing the ints and not hanging onto the ball, but a bit of balance in the attack would have seen more drives convert into scores.

I swear Henry Burris is a clone of Aaron Brooks of Saints infamy, athletic, strong arm, ability to scramble. Both also struggle reading defences, locking in on his initial read (leading to consistent red zone turnovers), and stealing defeat from the jaws of victory with turnovers at clutch time. They also are very effective at deflecting criticism from themselves, by stating "we" rather than "I" when talking about losses to the media. Henry is not a young QB, the mistakes he makes are inexcusable with his experience level, and the faster the Stamps move on, the better the org. will be for it.

Sure Burris wasn't great but there are bigger issues and more important areas to address than the QB position.

Burris is far from holding this team back form winning games. Unless the defense and special teams pick it up we won't win whether we have 0 or 10 turnovers.
You can blame the defense all you want. They stopped the lions at 2 and out several times in the 4th quarter and when you are on the field as much as they were in the third it is unfair to expect them to hold the BC Lions offense (I thought 14 points was not bad considering). Wether you want to believe it or not, this team is built for offense. Most teams in the CFL dream of the Calgary Stampeders receiving core yet the team can't put points up on the board until late.

You will likely argue that well the only reason we are still in the games so close to the end is because of some of Burris' plays. That of course is true remembering the ridiculous throw to Copeland etc. However, wether you want to admit it or not, he forces the play ALL THE TIME. When one of our receivers comes through and makes a miraculous grab or for once he puts the ball exactly where its needs to be its pretty much highlight reel. Those watching objectively at those times will ask the same question then as when he gets picked....why does he force the ball into low percentage areas.

He reminds me of the talented High School quarter back that needs to get on the field and throw a hail marry right after the other team scored in the hopes of getting the team back to even right away. Even the CFL is a game of patience, momentum and possesion. Not this nonesense he is (literally) throwing around.

A few pieces in the paper today re. Burris.

Eric Francis' has a piece:
http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Fo...84585-sun.html

Noteable for Burris' comments re. turnovers:

"People are jumping to conclusions for reasons I don't know," shrugged an abnormally defensive Burris. "Turnovers have never been a problem in my career. I think I've fumbled more this season than I did in two years in college. Last season I only fumbled three times. That's something that happens sometimes when you're trying to make plays. Has there ever been a guy go an entire year without a fumble or an interception? No, and it never will happen."

Pull your head out of your arse frank. What's held you back your ENTIRE career is your turnovers.

Also in the Herald today Mike Petrie (who I think has the best coverage of the CFL) has a very good piece on Burris and provides damning evidence regarding Hank's turnovers, QB rating and dead last completion rate.

One of the games I watched on TV had a chart showing Burris' stats as far as wins/losses went. Apparently most of the time he was wearing green he was below .500

Obviously a football game can be won or lost by other factors other than QB, but the QB is likely the most important telling feature as to whether a team will win or lose.
