OK, first of all perhaps you might consider asking both of them (in general, and not to spoil the surprise, which I take it this will be..) "What songs do you think of when you see your fiance?" You might get some good feedback there and it will help be a memorable scene for both the bride and groom. (Likewise, perhaps even what DON"T you think of!!)
Two, are there any themes that you can see within the pictures themselves for each person, or of them combined? BTW, how long do you want this to run?
From a production angle, can this all be done beforehand, i.e. can you have the pictures and audio sync'd in a computer program so that you don't have to try to fiddle around with it as you go (bad idea allround there... too much can go wrong...)
How old are they? What are their first names? How big and diverse is the reception crowd?
Those are some questions that should be addressed before anyone can give a serious recommendation.
Which leads me to this... The White Stripes? WDF?
Man, I cannot wait to get my Smack-O-Vision technology working. It would be so nice to be able to reach through a PC and bitch slap people.

Quantity of people? Age ranges?
It is important to focus on the groom and bride, but it is also important to remember that there are very close members of each that will have this as a memory forever. If you have 50% of the people as fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents etc who are 50 ish, choosing songs becomes harder. If it is a small crowd of just younger friends, that is another story.
Put yourself in each person's shoes and the crowd's feet will tell you what to play!

As long as it works for the bride and groom, thats all I really care about. I don't know anything about exact number other than I would guess around 125, and the age group is very diverse.
When my wife's sister got married I used "I would walk 500 miles" by The Pretenders for the dating song... too bad he decided that he wouldn't walk 500 more.
Somebody suggested God Blessed The Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. That was used for my sister-in-law's selection. For my other sister-in-law's video the song was Butterfly Kisses, but I don't know the name of the artist, and the for the groom they used Hero by that Inglesias feller (or however you spell it).
My only advice is to not pick anything that they'll hate. A lot of these suggestions are fine and all but who's to say that they don't hate music by x or genre x.
Pick what they'll like and what is appropriate, not what you like. I've seen it happen when country gets played and the two people HATE country but the guy who picked the music liked it.
Urge Overkill - Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon (Pulp Fiction soundtrack.... slow)
The Guess Who - Star Baby (fast and fun)

Bryan Adams - Heaven (slow)
Shaun Cassidy - Da Doo Ron Ron (peppy)
Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (very fast, did this one at a buds wedding)

Grand Funk Railroad - Some Kind Of Wonderful (moderate)
Donna Lewis - I Love You Always Forever (starts slow, picks up nicely)

Hall & Oates - You Make My Dreams (peppy)
Queen - You're My Best Friend (moderate)
I did one once to We're gonna be friends by the White Stripes. They are both huge stripes fans so it fit. If you want to go a bit more romantic you could try There's a Reason for our Love by Ron Sexsmith or At Last by Etta James.
