What's this? It interacts with Vista? First I've read about that.

Still needs to come down another $200 or so before it starts to sell. A $100 price drop isn't going to help it much in the market.

Vista makes the 360 a media centre extender. You can access stuff on your pc if you have one of the vistas with the home media center on it. a couple of my guys here think it is outstanding...basically if you have media on your pc you can stream it to your 360 and then tv.

i have also been fooling around with orb.com on my xp pc. it works well with the 360 and its free. try that at your own risk.

On thread though, i would think that he number of "exclusives" will be very limited in the future as companies try to get their loot back as quickly as possible. One thing that M$ has done with the 360 is to have an extremely similar software (and related hardware) architecture on the Vista platform as the 360...and in the future the xbox live feature and cross-platforming games will be more than just "shadowrun". in spirit, if not 100% in reality, you can develop for the pc or 360 and easily migrate cross platform to give you another sales channel. its a pretty effective idea.

Isnt it funny, the 360 is the most open platform available from M$ and its actually selling well. Strange, very strange

www.tversity.com

you will use it, you will love it

EDIT: this is also for those with Windows XP (in fact it was designed for XP, but works with Vista as well). what it does is create it's own media library that the 360 can read (avoiding the need for any media center software or media player 10) and it will play virtually anything. it transcodes other formats on the fly to WMV so no matter what video format your file is in you can play it through the 360

Who knows how long it will last but the PS3 instantly jumped to the top of Amazon's selling list for game systems following the price drop. I have a feeling the games coming out soon along with the price drop will lead to a pretty big spike in sales.

I actually thought the launch price was fair lol. I guess it's because I wanted the bluray player as well.

That's interesting, because I also have an upscaling Panasonic DVD player, and I find the PS3 does a far better job. Maybe yours is a better model than mine; DVD S-77. Thing was bloody expensive, maybe I got ripped off.

I've had the PS3 for almost 2 months now. While the Blu-ray DVDs are phenominal, the only game I've enjoyed is MLB 07:The Show. That game in rules! Can't wait for the hockey!

There are Rumors that Sony is replacing the 60gb version with the 80gb version. The 80gb version will apparently have a price of $599 (USD) again.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/13/so...us-after-july/

If you want to get a PS3 at the current price of $499 USD or $549 Cdn, I'd get one asap. Dont forget about the 5 free movies.

Remember, hard drive size means almost nothing for the PS3. Any 3.5" notebook hard drive can be used to replace the OEM hard drive. Right now, a 100gb Seagate is $90 at Memory Express, which saves you $10 and gets you 20gb more space. A 250gb Western Digital is $230.

I don't doubt it will recieve a sales spike with the price drop, it has to. Problem is, it needs more than a sales spike to compete with Wii. It will be very interesting to see if the PS3 can put up X360 type sales numbers in NA the first full month after the drop. That will be the real test. I'm not sure if Amazon rankings mean anything at all in the bigger picture and we won't know until Aug NPD is released in the middle of September.

Then what happens when the 360 gets a price drop?

Yep. We are finding out the reason why MS didn't counter the price drop with one of their own. It's not really a premanent price drop. Once the 60 gb ones are gone the price goes back up. And really that could be a PR nightmare...raising the price $100 for an extra 20 GB of space.

I'm not sure how Sony fairs this holiday season with MGS4 getting pushed to 2008. The 360 is going to be the only console that can play all the most hyped games and you darn well MS is going to drop the price for the holiday season as well.

Oh believe me I know. I'm sort of hoping no good games come out in 2008 because of all the 360 and Wii games I may have to play.

But it is expected that 30-40% of sales the last bit of this year will be from GTA, Halo 3 and Madden. Not to mention a new Fifa, Mass Effect, Bioshock.....

This seems to be really grey at the moment, since I read that this was announced at Sony UK, but Sony US never confirmed this and denied that the 60 GB version would be discontinued. If this is the case though, it really isn't a price drop because in the 80 GB version, they removed the chip that allows backwards compatibility for all PS2 games, like they've done with all the European units. That's a load of crap if you ask me. That's terrible marketing on Sony's side if they are in fact discontinuing the 60 GB unit.

No doubt about it they are discontinuing the 60 GB version. The price drop was alos only for North america and the 80 GB model will be at the previous 60GB price point and will not come down in price once the 60GB ones are sold.

Really this is another case of Sony doing something right and then shooting themselves in the foot. They've done it since the announced the PS3 so i guess no one should be surprised.

Also of note is that Killzone is a 2008 release along with MGS4. Sony will go the holiday season without either of the big 2 they were counting on for a November-ish release. Not good news for them especially with Halo 3 already having over 4 million pre-orders which easily sets a new record. Having all these great games on one console this holiday season is going to move a good number of 360s. It could put Sony in a pretty big hole.

Didn't want to start another thread, so I'll thrown this in here.

Any gamers out there? I'm definitly nto one, I haven't owned a console since my N64.. but I play everynow and then since friends all have something. But I watched alot of the TechTV coverage of E3 late last week and I think I'll be picking up a 360 by the end of the week. Alot of cool games and can't wait for the UFC game to come out.

That WiiFit looks interesting.. but they should have used someone other then someone with less charisma then a cactus to present at there presser.

That was Miyamoto, essentially the Wayne Gretzky or Micheal Jordan of the video game industry. If he wants to present WiiFit you bet your ass that there is no argument from anybody. I agree that maybe he should learn some english or something rather than going through a translator. He talks to plenty of English speaking media every year and does the E3 press conference every year so it would benefit him. With him heading up the WiiFit project, it is going to be an astronomical success if the price is in line with or just slightly above (to compensate for the "board") that of a regular game.

Rumour has it that WiiFit will sell for $69.99 including the balance board. That's very reasonable IMO!
