was this guy an immigrant? There seems to be an automatic assumption here that he "came here, and should follow the rules". Maybe he is from here? There are sikhs born in Canada.

other then that, I agree it's stupid. When it comes to safety, religion should not trump the law. I'm all for uniform exemptions etc. but not safety.

That stemmed from talk of lax safety in other countries. Obviously the want to not wear a helmet came from the religion and/or culture of another country. More than likely recent immigration (1st generation or sooner) plays a role. It seems like typically after a generation or two people adapt substantially to the popular culture. For this example there is no 3rd generation Canadians wanting to change the helmet/police hat/military helmet rules. Not saying that 3rd generation Canadians aren't trying to change things because of their religion, but I don't think anyone would dispute that this culture is relatively new to Canada's legal system.

I do understand the "it doesn't really affect me... if he gets hurt, that's his problem" thinking, but what if you were driving past this guy who is refusing to wear a helmet, make contact accidentally, he slips, flips and cracks his head open?

Sure, it's his own fault for not wearing a helmet, but there's no doubt you'll feel guilty if the injury is serious, or worse consequences come about. Worse case scenario, he dies, while you live, knowing it was your bump that killed him.

Pathetic. I really don't agree with the "compensation" part. Your choice to wear the turban, then it's your choice not to ride go carts. Live with it.

Agreed. If your religious beliefs make it impossible for you to wear safety gear, then your religious beliefs argue that you should not be performing that activity.

Of course, if they let this dumbass on the ride, and he got hurt, they'd get sued anyway. The courts need to realize that putting people/organizations/businesses into no-win situations is a miscarriage of justice.

Like I said if it's a part of your religion go ahead and go fight it. ANYWAYS why is it that people assume that all people who are not white are immigrants???? if some of you would like I can introduce you too Sikhs who wear a turban and were born in Canada, it isn't a hard thing to imagine considering, majority of our families immigrated here at one point or another, it's just completley ignorant to think that only a certain skin color was really born here. I'm sick of the bull comments like 'go back to wherever they came from' I'm sikh if I was to go back to where I came from it would be CALGARY not India, I may not have the skin type suiting the typical Canadian (in some peoples minds) but I'm just as Canadian as anyone else. This isn't directed at the poster I quoted or directly towards this thread, just over the time too the comments I've seen for situations similar to this, this is something I have gone through all my life till this day, people still ask me where I'm from even though I look the exact same as everyone else just more tan.. .

EDIT: Sorry just had to say something it's been irritating me for a while now.
