I mostly have experience with sony ericssons. If you are pressed for money (which you said you were not) you should go for a w810 or 610. With music as a priority, I would definitely consider any walkman phone with the walkman 2.0 software. Suggestions include the new w580, w850 (wont have as good reception due to it being triband), and w610 (has bluetooth audio).

fiance had to take her iphone back to the apple store after 1 day because the battery lasted about 2 hours. hopefully that was just a lemon. the apple store was just handing out replacements which is nice.

To enable it you have to Edit the phone settings using a USB data cable, there's no other way around it..

As for a phone to to get that does what you want, the nokia 6275i will do everything you said outta the box, and even more slightly modified...
do you know where i could find an indepth explanation how to do that ive googled everything i can think of and can't figure it out. I have all the usb cords and everything.

I just switched to the 700wx. I'm not too impressed with the windows OS versus the Palm OS on my Treo 650. There are certainly some upgrades on the 700wx vs the 650. But overall I think when I upgrade next year. I'll either switch back to the Palm OS or maybe give the Blackberry a whirl.

I have the Samsung m610. Sweet phone, but I didn't buy it for it's MP3 capabilities, rather its super slim body and the camera features. Plus I just loved how it looked/felt.

It's alright for MP3s. I bought a 2 GB mini-SD card for $45, so memory is not a huge issue. The problem is the menu isn't great, and if you're not using the headphones, I find the volume isn't loud enough. Same with the ringer or MP3 ringtones- I miss calls occasionally in busy/noisy places because I can't hear my ringer, and the vibrate mode is kind of wimpy. If you're using headphones the volume is fine, but again, you have the use the craptastic mini-USB Samsung ones they give you, and not whatever other model you usually use (Shures for me).

A friend of mine has one of the Sony Walkman phones mentioned a few time above, and LOVES it. He bought it primarily to act as an MP3 player and not just a phone, and it works great for that apparently. I find them too bulky and old school, but that's just me.

An interesting article about the iPhone.... certainly something to consider. I wonder where technology will take us in the next 5 years? The iPhone as it is today will likely be obsolete by then.
