7. Thou shalt not begin redundant threads. While you don't have to search back and find a thread that's six months old to post in, it IS expected to put a little effort into seeing if there is an existing thread for your post. If you don't, expect to see visions of a dancing Rico Fata.
The term was apparently coined when Fata was traded, and the trade was posted numerous times in a bunch of different threads.
I still think this should be replaced with "help a hockey player" [/b][/quote]
Now I don't want to step on anyones toes or challenge any memories, but I'm sure the "Fata" came about not just because of numerous threads but because at least 2 weeks after Fata was in fact placed on waivers (and scooped) some poster (I think he had been on vacation) started a thread called "Rico Fata put on waivers!?!!?"
I am prone to drink/hallucination/moronicism so I could be wrong, but that's how I remember it. I also realize that I am a real nerd for actually having this in my brain so no need to point that out.
To get a sense of it, imagine if someone showed up on the board tomorrow with a thread titled "Flames trade Saprykin and Gauthier!!??!"
Aaah, CP history. Even if I made the whole thing up, it's still good to remember.

Sure. It was before my time, so I'm just going on what I was told earlier this year. Same sorta thing though.

I believe there was a 3000 post thread about two years ago, before the Afghanistan conflict, on the off-topic board, with guys like Captain Sensible, Displaced, Gerry Cheevers and maybe myself playing prominent roles. I think that was the first time Bingo was even aware he had an off-topic board.
|
That was the thread that got the off-topic board rolling. Before that thread no one would post in it.

Whoops no I wasn't trying to say you were wrong. Just giving my version of events and if I was challenging anybody it would be the tyrant that wrote the Hammurabi Code that you quoted from.

Another good CP memory is the chat room after the playoff games. The 'icarus likes men' night was hilarious.

Yeah, I tried to do that a few times but after the games I was usually so wasted I couldn't keep up with all the posters in here who use the "male secretary" as their secret identities.

One of the weirdest was the "Ron Wilson is a Chach" thread. Led to many posts wondering what a Chach was. I think it became a few pages long even.

Anyone want to post links to these threads so we can reminisce and better judge which one's the best?

Wasn't there something about salt and that poster Modano? Some drunken posting I believe? That was a long time ago.

Another one I remember was some Vancouver fan (he identified himself as such) was complaining about getting a DUI, that he knew he wasn't drunk even though his blood alcohol level was above .08

Did he ever get slammed for that. Did the Mods ban him....for some reason I remember the thread saying after a few posts....."I am banned"

I think the funniest multiple posts were the ones during the playoffs labelled "Playoff tickets for sale". I would always try and get a post in before they were deleted.
It was also kind of comical to click on the thread and be greeted with "Hi! I'm a scalper and now I'm banned!!"

The longest one for a while, was just after I got on the board....the (alledged) discrimination and power trip/roughness that the Edmonton cops used on Flames fans on a trip in March 2002.
|
Ahhh I remember that well.. moreso because I was actually on that eventful trip! I first learned of CP after one of the guys involved mentioned he had posted our story on this "Flames Forum" somewhere on line..
Yes, the Edmonton police service and Rectal Place fans earned a special place in my heart after that... right up there with trick-or-treat muggers and kitten squishers...

In the immortal words of Ed McMahon, with a little bit of Phil Hartman sassiness...."You are correct, sir!"
The earliest uses of the Fata were classic, as was the first time Crazy Joe unleashed the dancing Fata as a .gif shortcut for posting, "Rico Fata is on waivers??"
Great stuff.

I'm gonna have to say this walk down memory lane should be considered one of the best all time. For people like me who lurked in the past, and I still don't consider myself a "key" poster, it's a great way to see how this site has developed over the years.
Great to see that even tho we have our differences, we have something in common, and it that we enjoy reading others bitch about things, weither it be in the Hockey, Off Ice, Other Sport or what have you. We all get some kind of entertainment out of it.

The really bizarre thing about that thread was he started it just as I was about three seconds away from leaving for an important meeting that would consume hours and really didn't participate much in it at all.
