If you go through Kansas City, get some BBQ. It is after all the BBQ capital of the World. Check out Oklahoma Joe's. Awsome ribs.

Part of the fun of a trip like this is just discovering things along the way. I'm sure in the south there are plenty of interesting places along the way. Civil war battle fields. Old plantations. Graceland! Depends on what your into.

Personally, if your a sports fan, I would try to catch some ball games along the way. Also Deadwood in South Dakota. After watching the series my interest has been peaked.

Actually that leads me to another suggestion. Go to a little place called Dreamland, just south of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This place also has legendary BBQ, and the best ribs in the world no doubt. It is a shack. You go in and you walk up to this old black dude sitting alone in a chair (actually I think he is dead now, so one of his heirs sits there now) and you tell him what you want (i.e. the quantity of racks you want and what kind of 'Coke' you want, such as Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, etc.). What you get brought to your table is a 600mL bottle and the best thing you have ever eaten. For a shack, a lot of famous people have eaten there as you can see on the walls and I think Dolly Parton or someone like that used to take her private helicopter, land on the lawn and run in for some ribs.

While your at it, check out the University of Alabama, what with its Joe Namath statue and old cotton mansions-turned-frat houses.

You might also want to stop in at Carrolltown, AL where you can see a ghostly visage in the window of one of the upper windows of the old courthouse. It dates back to when a black prisoner, staring out the window at the mob about to lynch him, was killed when a bolt of lightning struck the building. An image of his face appeared in the window after that, and no matter how many times they replace the window, the face reappears. Spooky.

Never been to the keys, so I might pick that. But between Universal and Disney, gotta go with Disney World. Epcot Centre rules! At least it did when I was a child.
