I really wanted a tattoo once.
I got an artist to draw up a design...then I framed it and put it up in my room.
I still see it almost everyday, people still appreciate it....and it's not on my body.
Imagine that.
I was thinking of getting one done like 5-6 years ago and never got around to it. It wasn't anything drastic and as far as I knew my concept had some uniquness to the idea and I wasn't going to get it in a highly visible area. But walking around Sylvan Lake beach one day in the summer it seemed like everyone under the age of 25 had tattoo's and piercings. So I decided I wasn't going to get one because when I was 18 I didn't want one, and to get one at that point in time I'd be just like everyone else. Although if the Flames win the cup by June of 08....I might have to sport a picture of Keenans face on my arse. I must admit the 1/30 odds of that happening does have me a bit fearful.

I'm a 'try anything once' kinda guy, so getting a tattoo was mandatory. I thought about it for a couple of years, but eventually I got a simple sun on my upper arm (shoulder, I guess).
The way I figure, I'll never reach a point when I wont appreciate the sun on my shoulders.

Nope, I was gonna get my whole calf/shin done up in a sleeve with picures I took while in Thailand, but I decided that while that would have made a pretty nice looking tattoo, and I really did enjoy the trip, it wasn't good enoguht to be on there for life. I'll probably still get a leg-sleeve (what do you call that.....a pant leg?) done some time in the next year or so, but I'm taking my time figuring out what I want.

I have a full sleeve of Icarus and Daedalus flying with the sun on my shoulder. I have a portrait of Pat Benatar with a banner that says Love is a Battlefield and I am getting my left arm sleeved starting in a couple weeks but still deciding between a few... I am also going to get Chris Trevino (one of the top 5 artists in the world) to do a leg piece for me probably Japanese Traditional style as that is his specialty.
I don't have any tatoos. I've been of the ilk that they are something that you should almost earn. I mean any Joe Blow can go into a tatoo parlor and get inked. But as a child the only people I ever saw tatooed (aside from bikers) served in WWII. Often an anchor with unit number, or something to that effect. I figure if you watched the people next to you die, and want to get a tatoo in their memory all the power to you. Frankly I think getting an Anglo-Saxon Christian getting an Asian spirtatual tatoo just doesn't make sense.
Otherwise my viewpoints are nicely summed up in the below:
2) Tribal bands/whatever. If I was some Maori dude (I know more than one, and they feel the same way) walking around seeing people with no appreciation for the history of those tattoos, sporting one, I'd get pretty pissed off about it.
After spending time in New Zealand, I would never considering getting a Maori tattoo.
Not because I don't like them, but because it's a respect thing. I saw waaaay too many tourists getting them done there, and for the actual Maoris that have them (which are beautiful tatts by the way), it's a false representation of what they stood for... similar to issues with kanji / tribal designs . And my girlfriend down there was Maori, so I know.
Got this on my left deltoid/shoulder 6 months ago. I've always been a huge history nerd, did my undergrad in Roman history. It just felt right, except the needles...
I have one, a Mayan warrior symbol on my shoulder, and I'm planning to get at least four more. My next one is an Aztex eagle on my back, shoulder to shoulder.

Well, after living in Rome for over a year, I gotta say that I like it. Do you have any ties?
I considered the SPQR, but decided against it because it's too Roman. I'm not Roman. My family is from Tuscany, so it doesn't fit. But even if my family was from Rome, I was born in Canada. SPQR is no joke. They've had that acro for a couple thousand years.

Hope it means something to you, since it's inked on you.
