Really? I guess I'll just have to add the Windsor/Detroit crossing to my list of nemesii.

4x4's Nemesii include:

Windsor/Detroit crossing (Canada/USA)
the light on Bannister Rd. @ the garden center (Calgary)
the light on Via Natzionale @ Via Milano (Rome)
The guy that orders 4 sandwiches and is inevitably right in front of me (every Tim Hortons)

A really great comedy CD is The Vinyl Cafe. He is Canadian and has a couple different CDs out.

Stuart McLean is awesome. He is a fantastic storyteller, we even go so far as to PVR his regular Sunday show on CBC radio.

PM me and I can help you get the CD's if you're interested.

Make sure your tires are inflated properly everytime you stop for gas.

Drink lots of water.

Pack some good snacks so you can have a couple of light meals as you travel. Eat big at night when you're stopped if you still need to.

Stop every two hours or so for a stretch and to walk around.

I have a really hard time staying awake in a car on long trips and these tips have helped me immensely.

Satelite radio is a good thing.

Bring good sunglases.

Make sure your wipers work.

Oh yeah, and have some maps and make sure you're familiar with them.

I drove from Calgary to Toronto a couple years ago with my little mutt. Having to stop a couple times a day and take him for a walk really refreshed me when I otherwise would've kept driving.

I find it hard to stop when I'm on a road trip but do so if you can.

If you have kids, DVD players for the back seats are a VERY worthwhile investment.

Make sure you purchase some additional health insurance unless you're otherwise covered in the US.

Why would you move back to Calgary? if I moved out there I would be living mortgage free, or close. I could take a job that i liked (if i found one) and enjoy a slower lifestyle. What is it that made you decide to move back to all the traffic and construction??

We haven't had those kind of tie-ups in a couple of years now.
It's pretty smooth sailing across the border here.

Yes, that, and they have set up pre-clearance centers for a lot of the truck traffic, which has helped.

I hear that there has been great advances in technology for these. Same material the astronauts wear for long drives apparently
