Calgary's was always pretty good, especially on a toque, ha. The rest of the identity was somewhat weak though...

I hope to god you are not comparing this thing to a Picasso or a Gehry. As someone with no artistic ability of my own, I don't like this thing, at least with the Vancouver moronic rock thing it is supposed to look like a goaltender or something like that, something which conveys something other than the year, and I may be missing it but I don't see anything which is uniquely London nor do I see anything which shows that it is the Olympics at all. It is still better than Montreal's drooping Olympic rings.... I know it was the 70s but still what were they thinking on that one, it looks like someone is giving me the finger.

Ok, let this be a call out to all of those who are sure they can do better than the london logo. Remember, I'm not a fan of this logo either, but clearly some of you think this is an easy task. This is your chance to shine! You clearly can do better, so let's make it crappen.....

Well, I don't think I could do better, graphic design ain't really my forte, but I do know what I like and what I don't like, and I don't like that. I look at it and see exactly what was written in the OP. A corporate guy trying to relate to the kiddies, by making it street, or at least their corporate interpretation of street.

The BBC has posted a few alternative logos submitted by angry Brits.
link
Edit: when looking at them, for some reason I keep hearing " London London London London London..."

I don't disagree with that, I think youre right in that it fails to have any sort of real cred. What I dont like is when people say ######ed things like "well, i could do that", because 99% of the time, no, no they couldnt.

My rendition of cool and hip:
can't upload, so if someone cares to tell me how to post an image without using a link that would be helpful since I spent countless seconds making this piece of art.

Ken, that one is a nice little idea (even though im not a brushscript man myself). The rest that people sent in are pretty attrocious.

Yeah, I like the fact that it has the city and the year, but doesn't have to beat you over the head about it. The fact is the Olympics are about the games and the athletes; not so much about the host city.
Too many of them feature the Union Jack; which for somebody like me who has British heritage is fine. But many people in other countries may not be so keen about having the flag all over stuff. The bottom line is the Olympics get a good chuck of their funding from marketing; and if nobody is buying stuff they lose money.

REally? I must admit - and again, this is coming from a non-graphic designer etc person - but I quite like #s 7 and 8 I think they are. But then again, I will likely have bad taste

Give me a break...
With something as crappy as this London logo, literally anyone could have created that logo. The thing is that most people would not create such a logo because they'd have the good sense to know it looks like sheet. It takes a special type of "artist" to be able to design something crappy and think that it's somehow special.
