Why don't you sign up for the free online trial for one and after the trial is done do the same for the other?

I have Sirius because I felt it's rock lineup was superior. I haven't checked recently but when I was deciding the general opinion was that Sirius played more hits while XM played a wider variety of songs.

I didn't hear it, I only read about it, but I think they picked up a homeless person on the streets, brought him in, and he said he wanted to rape Condoleeza Rice. They probably laughed. They apparently apologized, and then the hit the fan. As far as I know, that's what happened.

I think it comes down to how it's connected. If it's installed using the FM transmitter then the quality will be like FM. The best route to go is to get a Satellite ready deck and connect a tuner box to it. I haven't heard this personally but have been told it's near CD quality.

I have Sirius and one of the things I've found is the sound quality is somewhere between AM and FM. And that is with a direct connection.

I went with Sirius because I knew the channels, and for NHL and NFL. I've found that I almost never listen to NFL on it- if you are a fan then on Sunday from 11-5 you are most likely watching the games somewhere.

And with Sirius there is a lot of repetition. To the point where it makes CJAY look like they never play the same song twice.

Right now I am looking at dropping Sirius. One issue is with the terrestrial repeater. Living in McKenzie Towne I am on the fringe of its range, and the radio gives preference to the terrestrial signal over the satellite. So it takes my radio about 15 minutes to figure it out; often by then I'm already at my destination.

Ken, by direct connection do you mean with an aftermarket deck and the tuner box, or are you referring to the seperate Sirius player with the 'direct connection' you get at Future Shop/Best Buy, where you connect a line to the existing antenna?

I use the audio out on the Sirius box and connect it into the cassette in on my stereo using one of those adapters that goes from a 1/8" jack to cassette. And I know that isn't the weak link because my MP3 player sounds great using the same connection.

I'm trying to recall where I read it, but I think Sirius uses a 64 kbps mono stream for the music, and 32 kbps for voice. And the big thing for the sound quality is the lack of stereo sound.

It's nice for a trip to Winnipeg to have a selection of music that you haven't programmed in yourself, but it also has its limitations. I know I come across as being quite negative, but the bottom line is I would keep my subscription if it was for the drop outs where I live.
