Really? So the guys we always see walking around are not from Calgary? How far away are these missions? Like, a calgarian mormon would get sent where? Anywhere? How is it decided? How long is the mission? Who pays for it? Do they stay with the local LSD church? What happens if you get caught tapping the pastors wife? Is she hot?

Church pays for it I assume (the morman church makes a killing with the '10%' tithe) and they usually get sent to another city in the first world to recruit.

My roomie served a mission in Colombia and he had to pay for it. People save up and go on missions because they want to. He says if you can't afford it and want to go, people will help you pay for it.

That was kind of funny. I doubt it's effectiveness, it would be like calling telemarketers at home and trying to get them to stop going into work. I just don't they would see the comparison.

I live a couple blocks away from a fairly large Mormon church and surprisingly I rarely get them at my door, thankfully. However I do get the Jehovah witness folks. They have a sneaky plan of attack. Firstly the people they send around are recent immigrants who speak terrible English, so it's hard to get them off your porch because you don't know what they are talking about. Secondly I've heard of them passing out pamphlets about recent events. They say something like, "would you like some information about whatever (Mad cow, SARS, etc.)?" So most people take the bait, but inside that pamphlet is that stupid Watchtower pamphlet. Or they make statements like, "are you concerned about recent terrorists events? Because we know whats causing all the evil in the world. Take this information."

They JWs did what Burninator talks about. But it was about Easter. The guy said here's a pamphlet to remind you about Jesus' death, and then he walked away. Haven't had a JW come to the door in years, but this sneaky got his information to me without even waiting for me to slam the door in his face.

I experienced a funny thing in Saskatoon one night. I was sitting in church at Vespers and saw two young men in white shirts, black pants and little name tags sitting there. It was a small church, so they stood out quite a bit. Well, they stayed for the entire service and the next day I found out that these two young Mormon missionaries came to my priest's door and our priest's son (19 years old) answered the door. Proceeded to talk with them and basically made them a deal - he would listen to their talk if they would come to our church. And they did. I was shocked that they came and stayed for the entire service.

Meh - as long as they're not pushy about it, I don't really care.
