for the blackout thing, make sure you drink a ton of water the day of your donation and eat lots. I was ill prepared for my donation in January and was light headed. I fueled up for last weeks and was fine.

Nice job on the low resting heart rates, gang. I'm down around 54, want to get back in the 40's. Lance Armstrong at peak fitness was somewhere around 29 BPM resting. Now that's efficiency!

Yeah, last time they booked me I asked them in advance because I'd been to Belize and whether or not that was one of their tainted zones, they said, yeah no problem. I show up they ask again, and I'm up front about where I've been, how long I was there for, they put me through. About 30 minutes later after I jump through the hoops at the last minute before they jab the needle in me they say oh, you've been to Belize, you're tainted! Well that was a waste of an hour after I'd asked long before I even showed up. So thats left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth about it. Although since I haven't been anywhere lately, I guess I could look at donating again one of these days. Although guaranteed I'll pass out briefly at the end of my donation I have the previous 4 times.

I regularly donate, but haven't for the past 6 months and can't for another 6 months because I recently went to Mexico. CBS said that I have to wait a year from the date I got back to donate again.

That sucks!

I have not donated blood before, and I've usually just used the excuse that I am not a big fan of needles (which is the world's lamest excuse, I know). However, my company is doing the Corporate Challenge and one of the events is donating blood, and they have a time set up for us during the day where we can all go over and do it together. I figure with it being set up for us, I shouldn't miss this opportunity to finally do it. Plus, it can't be that bad... can it?!

That's regularly. I donate a couple times a year except I travel quite a bit and am now banned for a few months because of a trip to Africa.

I just wanted to say that despite my ridiculous fear of all things needles, I signed up to donate blood with my company next week. I'm nervous, but its for a good cause... so, yeah. Looking forward to it I guess!
