I really enjoyed this series and its realism.

For those of you who like to watch war serials on T.V. one of the best ones ever made was Tour of Duty which is available on DVD. It followed a platoon through a one year tour of Vietnam and was exceptionally well done. They even tell the story of a village massacre and the Song Tay prison rescue.

Just an FYI.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ronald Speirs. Besides Winters, he is my other favorite in the Band of Brothers series. The guy is awesome in every sense of the word. When he was commanded to relieve Lieut Dike, he would rush into battle like a crazy person. Absolutely fearless.
I think Speirs is actually my favorite. I read about him a little bit on Wikipedia, and it seems that he may actually have killed the POWs like it is talked about in the series, but because of a lack of evidence and a need for competent leaders on the battlefield, nothing was ever done about it. Great character though, I don't care what he did.

my favorite character was Joe Toye. poor guy got shot and blown up so many different times but kept on fighting. it's too bad he died long before the series was made, i would have loved to hear things from his perspective

My Grandpa who fought in WW2 says he doesn't like War Movies because they glorify it all and just show the big explosions. I got him to watch one of the BOB and he was hooked.

Also, Speirs was my favourite as well, the part where he runs around the Germans and back is amazing.

I should add, that this isn't so much a war documentary, but a documentary (can you even call it that??) on the people in the war. Yes, there are battle scenes (some of the best stuff I've seen mind you), but that comes secondary to the characters. I know it sounds so phony to be pumping something like this, but it IS that good.

I begged the family to get this for me for Christmas when it came out on DVD years ago and so glad I did. Love it.

The only thing that tarnished it for me was seeing Donnie Wahlberg in the series. In stuff like this, I like it much better when it's a bunch of relatively no-name actors.......just seems a bit more real to me, I guess. Oh well.

Thanks to this thread my wife and I started watching the entire series from scratch.........again. Just fantastic stuff.

Should be a spoiler warning on that youtube clip because in my mind thats one of the best parts of the whole series. You can just see the relief on Liptons face when a real CO comes in and starts laying down some orders. Love it.

But yes, great proof of how big of a bad ass he really is.

Donnie Wahlberg ruined it for you ???? who cares..... he plays a good Lipton. The guy is a decent actor and played the part really well. In fact this series revived his dead career.

A few of my favorite scenes:
Attack on the 88's at St. Mareglese (sp?)
Assault on Carentane (sp?)
Crossroads.

i thought he was one of the best actors in the series, and if you look at the real Carwood Lipton, Wahlberg really does come off like a young version of him. i think the producers simply went with whomever was the best fit for each character regardless of how famous they were

I never said he 'ruined' it for me.......I said 'tarnished'. Big difference.

I guess being around when the New Kids On The Block was all the rage kind of sours me on the guy. Yes, he did do a good job, it's just something personal I wasn't a huge fan of. Like I said earlier.........oh well.

To each their own..........still a fantastic series.
