broke the first rule
|
This past good friday I went to the Trews concert the night before & had copious amounts of beer. Being that it was the middle of the busiest time of year at work, I had to work the stat holiday. I managed to get myself into the office at 10, put my hat over my head, put my feet up on my desk, and stared at my desktop for about an hour, had a 30 minute meeting, then just decided to leave because I wasn't going to get any work done that day.

The last Thursday that I overindulged was my last. An entire group of us buyers went out one night after a very dry day of meetings. Someone tucked me into my hotel bed at 5am. At 8am, I literally stumbled off the elevator only to find myself looking up into my employers eyes. (Thank god, he's got a healthy sense of humour.) That is all I want to remember.
Oh, and I also remember trying to make good decisions regarding someone else's money while I was nausious.
I believe I'll stick with Fridays.

What happens when the money runs out? Seriously.

Agh, hangovers at work can be so brutal, depending on your job. Last summer when I worked at a golf course there were many days I would show up to work after 45 minutes of sleep, and I would still be drunk. I mowed greens, and usually I could never remember the first few that I would mow. I can only imagine what they looked like.
But now that I work in an office, I can nurse my hangover my staring blankly at a computer screen, or curling up in my chair.

I worked 4 summers at a golf course, and every week we had the dreaded weekend shift. Add to that payday on friday and there were many occasions that we would party all night, walk to work at 5am (we were all blitzed to the nines), and work til 10 (just worked a half day on the weekends).
I would say cutting greens were the best job, after doing it so many times it was second nature, and all the walking made you sweat the booze right out, so when 10am rolled around someone was sobered up and could drive you home (we'd leave someone's car at work on friday, figured that one out in a hurry). I have to add, some of my best lines were cut while reeking of a good night out, our super & forman could never figure out how we did it.
The bloody trap rake is what got me, spinning round, and round, and round, and round, agh the memories. There's a couple of bunkers out there that have some 'donations' from me.

Oh geez, even thinking about that damn machine makes me feel ill!
There were many mornings at the course where every few minutes someone would be running into the woods to blow chunks. I think weekends were usually a write off though, cause the supervisors were always out with us the night before too, so we'd all be dead the next morning.

My best sales days when I worked at the mall were always when I was hungover. I think it's a combination of me having to pretend that I'm not hungover, but put so little pressure to buy because I didn't actually want to do work or go out back and get product, that my no pressure technique would work every time.
My co-workers used to laugh at me as I'd be pissed off that I was selling a computer, or TV, or cell phone, or something (generally high commission products but required work like physically getting them)

Sitting at a desk nursing a hangover......geeze you city people have it easy. Try working in a plywood mill when the summer temps roar past 30C inside before noon. I have only done that once but I will never again go to work hungover.

The trick is, can you become MORE hungover/drunk at work without losing standing?
There's your mission for the day.
I have actually found, being hungover at work has made me sober up/feel better than anything else.
But sometimes its fun to just let it all go!

You guys are making me jealous. It sounds bad, but I wish I was nursing a hangover this morning, I haven't done that since finishing uni last year. I need to get out more!
I spent last night resting my head against a grill heater and playing the Metal Slug Anthology on my PS2...

I'm hungover at the U of C and I have a test this morning. This isn't going to end well. As soon as this test is done I am going to party all weekend. Sweet.
Locke.
I agree J Pold, there is something about thursdays I just dont get.

Put me in that group as well.
Can't peg it, but ever since I was a teenager I've always prefered drinking on a Thursday night as opposed to a Friday or Saturday.

I think it is because thursday night starts to feel like it is the weekend. You have one more day of work to get through... and the thought it "I can catch up on sleep on the weekend"
I find for myself..... going out thursday with the fear of work the next day actually slows down my drinking a bit... so that instead of incoherently spit-talking to girls... i actually have a bit of game.

Yeah, maybe I'm just an alcoholic, but Monday nights, I go out for drinks after work normally because "it's Monday" and Monday's suck.
Hump day drinks are mandatory as well to celebrate the fact that you're "almost there".
Thursday nights are good for the reasons you said, as well as Friday being extremely slow at most offices.
Funny thing with Fridays is that most of the time, me and my buddies get too wasted at after-work-drinks to do anything too crazy later on in the night ($2 drinks?! You can't beat that!).

I tend to drink a lot on Sundays. I enjoy Sunday afternoon drinks with whatever sports are on TV and then that leads into Sunday evening ----tails. I think it's because I am trying to prolong the weekend. Makes Monday mornings a bit rough at times.
