I lurked for about 2 hours.
I was actually using that newsgroup for the flames, and part of me clicked in, and asked myself where is everyone.
So I searched for "Calgary Flames messageboard" on the net and voila, this popped up. Spent a few hours looking at it and then signed up. This is while hungover from a new years party, so I just sat there reading.

I started visiting forums alot at the start of the last season to catch up on stats etc. The forums I visited most were calgarypuck and calgaryflames.com and during the playoffs I decided to join calgarypuck. When I joined I stopped visiting calgaryfalmes.com right away realizing Calgarypuck is all I'd need for up to date news and stats. Also there are alot less trolls and stupid arguments here.

I was a lurker for a good year and a half before I started posting. I'm still more of a reader than a poster nowadays as well.

I started posting Tim Ramholt updates on the board off the Flames main site. They'd get maybe 10 views. Got to the point where I was posting "For those 3 people interested here's what happened last night" and had on guy reply "I think you're on the wrong board" to one of my updates.
That's when I got a PM in my inbox from Reggie Dunlop I think it was saying, how he has read some of my updates, and there's a site where people actually care about developing players in the Flames system... www.calgarypuck.com/forum
that day I went, registered, and started the "Ramholt Update" series. Mostly read the main board, throw in my 2 cents if I think it'll help discussion, or further things along. Post on the off-topic board about whatever's going on if I know it's right or not (mind you I'll tell you if I'm not certain).

I found the site when I typed "Calgary Flames traing camp banff" into google. I lurked for about 2 weeks. I came home from the bar one night and decided to start posting.

Signed up immediately when I found the place.. Back on the old "Tree format" board.
|
So no one told you about CP? You just did a search on the net?
|
Yeah basically. I was just searching for Flames pics and stumbled upon the site.
|
Same thing with me pretty much. I found the old site just by searching for Calgary Flames stuff on the internet.
Of course, if my memory serves me right, you didn't have to register to post back then. You could enter any handle you wanted, but I think your ip adress was at the top of every post. [/b][/quote]
I stumbled onto the site in the same way. I lurked for only about a month before joining.

I think I posted 10 minutes after registering. At the time I wasn't too aware of the "nub poster rules" and proceeded to insult local canuck fans, carrying over etiquette I learned on Sportsnet
I think it was AlbertGQ who was posting the excel spreadsheets over there (the ones showing the remaining games, and the probability of where they would finish) and I figured right then the calibre of Sportsnet posters were at a ridiculously lower level than in here.

Yeah, I used to post on the Sportsnet forums as well but I got sick of all the immature posters whose only response was "Flames Suck and so do you" So many meaningful debates were ruined by 13 year olds who can't get a date. People would impersonate each other since you can sign in as any name you want. Sometimes there were moderators sometimes there wasn't. I don't know what its like now because I never go there anymore

yeah, and then you came to Calgary Puck that's populated by the 20's and 30's age range who can't get a date, but make meaningful, well thought out, cleverly expressed posts

Hey.......that's not fair.
I'm a 30-something who doesn't need a date........I'm married.
I just choose to stay away from her!!
As for this thread, I don't think I lurked too long before I joined up. Also found the site while searching on Google. Only site I make sure to check out every day.

I have no idea how I found this site. But I know I posted pretty much right away. Two years and 1300 posts later it's been a lot of fun.

Well I've been reading this message board almost everyday for over a year now, Mostly at nite when I'm bored and insomnia gets the best of me. I don't post much because I fear redundancy, and mockery.

2 years or so?
I always found everyone here very hostile back then, probably because many were 'experts' and had a lossing team, not a great combo. The old-old-old(?) board was also much different then many of the sites i frequented back then, now it is much more similar (In terms of tags and such).

I think I lurked for less than a day before I registered.
I was turned on to Calgarypuck by a friend I never see any more on icq. He is/was a Flames fan and recommended it to me because he was well aware of how annoying I was finding the Calgary Flames newsgroup.
The rest is history.
