For New Brighton's kind of price range unless you're looking at those Heartland duplexes I'd say you look across at the deep SW instead like mentioned above (Evergreen/Bridlewood/Shawnessy/Silverado etc), they all have similar amenities and commute to downtown. With New Brighton, first of all it's not as established as the SW, then there's the dump, plus you have to pay that $265 community fee as it's developed by Carma just like Tuscany. The thing is that fee is not really worth it in New Brighton (just MHO, personally speaking). If you really like the SE that much I'd say stay in McKenzie Towne.

Oh and there's the C-train in the SW NOW, not 10 years later. If public transport matters to you that is.

Well Public transportation is not an issue as Both Mckenzie town and New Brighton have Direct shuttles down town. Which is all I need.. So that is met.

Well yes, but the C-train is preferred by most people since it's not subject to morning traffic.

I would prefer not to spend 3 hours every day in transit to and fro work.

Also be sure to check out the 151 bus' schedule. I know there isn't a way I could use that route to get to and from work. There's only 2 buses per day.

i would probalby just jump over to the the 117 and take that bus to work in the morning. it only takes 40 minutes tops taking the direct shuttle to work.. But then I work early.. I prefer that to the C-train which is always packed...

But yah 151 only has 2 in the morning.

I think everyone would prefer that too, but not everyone can/wants to pay $400+ a month for a parking spot downtown or downsize to live closer to downtown

I disagree with you. If people truly preferred that, this city would not have developed the way it has.

I think I can give up a few square feet and a tiny lawn with my house for the ability to get home after work and walk to a huge (and hardly used) park to run with my dog before people who can't sacrifice the same even get off the Deerfoot.

C'est la vie, and to each their own.

Ahh. Get out of the cookie cutter row housing in the new communities of Calgary.

Come out to the good life in Langdon. A short 12 minute commute East on Glenmore Trail.

New school, large lots. Quiet streets. New golf course being built.

And how much does it cost to buy out there?

Similar to New Brighton I would think. I am not 100% certain of the prices in that community but you can build a nice sized home in Langdon with attached garage for $450k.

Like anywhere though you can easily spend a lot more that that though.

Golf course lots are pretty pricey. But that is too far to the school anyways. (if you have kids)

I would stick with Shawnessy, Somerset, Bridlewood Evergreen before the Mckenzie towne, New Brighton, Copperfields of the city. The services are very good, there is no dump nearby and you don't pay a fee each year for fancier streetlights or "community feel". That and there is no landfill to even worry about.

I'm not saying that these areas are the be all and end all, but the prices are about the same without that issue.

What about Cranston. I hear it is nice community and you can buy nice houses for a decent price.

We currently live in our 2nd house in McKenzie Towne. First one was in Prestwick and then we moved to Elgin. We have considered a move to New Brighton in the past but as others have mentioned it is WAY too close to the dump for me. I even think Mckenzie Towne is a bit too close.

Have you ever thought about Auburn Bay? We just bought a house there with Baywest homes. A little further south but it is going to be a great community with a private lake. I grew up in Bonavista so I love the benefits of having the lake. Skating, toboganning in winter, swimming, fishing, the beach, tennis, basketball etc... in the summer. If you have kids you just can't beat it. Even if you don't have kids it is an awesome feature.

We love McKenzie Towne and the whole area. We just decided the lake was too good of a feature to pass up and we really wanted an attached garage.

Have a look at the showhomes.....

we were in looking at Auburn bay as well. Not sure I can afford the prices. lol

Cranston is another idea we are considering.. We could build the house we like in New Brighton over there as it turns out. So that is Definetly an option.
