I saw this done on a Saturn: insert two screwdrivers between the door and the car roof to create a separation. Use a straightened wirehanger with a hook at the end to pull the lock knob up.

This might be harder to do with cars that have flat knobs or knobs on the side of the door.

I've used this method a couple of times. The thing is to be careful you don't scratch your paint. Use a cloth or glove under the screwdriver where you pry.

2 crushed milk cartons do just as well (in fact, AMA did that once) in his case, he has an 02 Sunfire. The lock is not a rod, but a thing above the door handle (kinda swivels around, it's flush with the handle when locked). Put 2 crushed milk cartons (or ANYTHING to pry the door open) at the BACK of the door. Insert coat hanger, hook onto lock, and pull. I've done that a few times working at co-op shawnessy....people feel the need to lock their doors at a gas station while going to pay, when there's attendants and cameras everywhere. I did it on a trailblazer....just make a smaller hook end on it than the actual hanger, as the lock piece is rather small. Shouldn't be hard though. It is infinitely easier than finding the rod on the inside of the door, unless you do that often.

Yeah, I had a moron moment last year where I had my keys in my jacket pocket and took the dogs for a run came home and my keys were lost. Of course the dumb part was that I did it again two nights later and did the same thing. Since I had no keys, I had to get the car towed to a dealership so they could get the code from the car for the keys. I joined AMA because it was less than the tow bill would be, and got the free tow and did get some other use out of the membership. But yeah, $175 or something like that for a new remote entry, and two new keys. Than add in another $100 for the AMA membership and that was an expensive dog walking.
