But not Celine Dion or any obvious lite artists. They will probably also go easy on the bubble gum too.
HotAC is a format designed for woman 25-40. Work friendly, but not too slow. Basically it will be what The Peak was 3 or 4 years ago.
Um, that's what I linked to:

Quote:
Today, Hot AC radio stations tend towards slightly harder rock music, such as Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith, and may occasionally play dance hits, such as those by Paula Abdul, Kylie Minogue, and Nina Sky. Madonna's more upbeat songs "Music" and "Ray Of Light" were big hits on Hot AC

I've checked out the new stations and am not impressed.
XFM - 92.9 - would be alright if it didn't sound like garbage in my car. It doesn't sound nearly as clear as any other FM station. It almost sounds mono.

101.5 - I heard a few decent songs on it but for the most part I can't see myself listening to it. If I do put it on in the car it's usually changed within a few seconds.

90.3 - have yet to hear anything on there worth leaving it tuned in.

I'm listening to X92.9 mostly now. I like the other new stations for flipping purposes - if X is playing something I don't like, or if they are in a commercial, I just flip through other stations until I find a song I like.

Only problem with X is that I can't even pick it up in my home, so I still have Cjay for my alarm. I suppose that when X actually builds a tower that doesnt suck, that will change as well.

Ya i found that too. What would they be using now? A new station should have new stuff, no?

Dunno. I know that when Sonic launched in Edmonton, they were broadcasting out of a trailer in Nisku because they were paranoid about another station switching formats and undercutting them. (I suppose they were watching the hip-hop war in Calgary.) They didnt exactly have the newest and best equipment at the start either.

I find that CKUA (93.7) has an ecclectic playlist that's always changing. Of course you'll likely hear songs you don't want to, as well.

It's really all about the transmitter. I am not sure where X is transmitting from but Sonic picked a great arrangement. I believe they are outside of the city limits on Stoney Plain road. This transmitter allows them to reach south of Red Deer and past Whitecourt on a good day. X was probably in such a rush to get on the air that they cut some corners to do so. Keep in the mind the owners don't have existing radio entities in Calgary and didn't have any infrastructure to "borrow" from. They are essentially starting from scratch...so it takes time to get things sounding proper. I've been back in Calgary for the past few days and have already noticed a big upgrade over how they sounded over the holidays. They still have some work to do though.
