2 completely different animals. Street Talk has no content overlap with any of these. Hell, a lot of people, including myself, will just buy a Street Talk and never read it in order to support the cause.

Speaking of Street Talk, how much do you guys pay the people selling them? I know they pay for the papers and re-sell them as a "job", but one of the reasons I don't buy it is I'm afraid of giving them too little.

The thing that drives me crazy about these papers is how many people just discard them...on the train, 5 feet after they've picked it up. Occasionally I'll pick up Metro, but I either recycle it at work or at home.

I don’t really know, but there is always this one guy right in front of bankers at the end of everyday selling them…but to me he looks pretty well off in comparison to the other homeless around the city…he was wearing brand new runners awhile back if he wasn’t selling the paper I would think he was your average guy

Off topic a bit, but there's a homeless guy in the same spot by our building pretty much every day. He always seems appropriately dressed for the season. In fact, during Stampede his old trucker hat was replaced by a cowboy hat. Now I know a lot of beggars on the street are not homeless per se but it makes me wonder where he stores all his stuff when he's out on the street asking for change...

I think they pay $0.35 per copy, so anything more than that and you're helping them out. I usually go for a buck.

Could be, Hulk. I know in most cities street talk type papers, it will actually state the set up in there - i.e. how the process works, how much they buy it for, etc. But that said, just ask the guy/girl, they will tell you.

My list is:
Metro (Calgary Herald???)

24 Hours is by far the most popular here in Vancouver. They are popular for a few reasons, weekly articles by some of the writers are well done and looked forward to by many. Plus they also do some interesting podcasts.
It's just a good way to kill time when your commuting on a packed bus or skytrain. They get an approximate readership of 200,000 people daily so the advertising dollars most definitely make it worth it for the publishers.
Like another poster mentioned in this thread, these versions of 'free media' are the way of the future.

24 Hours is published by the same people as the Sun, and is even touted in some circles as replacing the Sun.
Metro in Canada is partly owned by Torstar (publishers of the Toronto Star and Hamiulton Spectator).
Rush Hour is published by the Calgary Herald ( http://www.canada.com/cityguides/cal...our/index.html) and takes the place of Dose, which was a national effort by CanwestGlobal with several branches. As far as I know Rush Hour is Calgary only.
