I'm not going to pretend to care about her. I don't. She is nothing more then entertainment, a distraction from the day to day dealings of my life.
I guess the rest of should learn a lesson about decision making and the consequences thereof.

I think that's precisely why some people pay SO MUCH attention to this. I do for different reasons, but essentially stories of this nature or Anna Nicole Smith or Hilton or Lohan are an escape from reality for some. Not you, but for others.
Prottotype mentioned Iraq. There is so much bad when it comes to Iraq that I began to see Iraq fatigue in the U.S. and probably other parts of the world too.

Those pictures certainly don't look fake..and might give me nightmares. Anyways, Britney is a product of our society's obsession with celebrity culture. People loved her a few years ago, and now she is a laughing stock. I hate to say it, but Britney got used like a whore by society. They used her for a quick stint of entertainment and then called her a slut and sent her on her way. Where are her "fans" now??

Chris Rock talked about this on Oprah and it is really sad how society cares more about Britney Spears breakdown then the death count in Iraq and the media is to blame partially because that is all they show us, but that shouldn't take away how much we crave the scandals in celeberty lives.

You're a sucker if you believe this story is true. LMAO
Those pictures are weeks old and don't even relate to this alleged suicide attempt.
BTW, I have some property you might be interested in

Uhhhhhhhh....It's just a random picture of Britney Spears. In no way connected to her current events.

Am I the only uncompassionate here who really doesn't give a crap if she offs herself? I mean really, look at the series of events leading to this. All avoidable and the outcome is more than predictable.

There is now report denying this happened:

Of course, one would expect them to deny it anyways.

It's funny that people blame the media for drawing so much attention to her, etc, but here we are discussing her on an internet message board. Perhaps if fewer people would discuss her on the internet, the media would find someone or something else to report. The media only report what people read...

the general public eats this crap up. As long as people keep buying rags like US and People etc, this stuff will continue to be reported and losers like Anna Nicole and Paris Hilton etc will be famous.

I think the fact that people like to live vicariously (sp?) through people with status, be it sports stars, hollywood celebs, etc that when something happens to one of them, ala Britney, Anna Nicole, society tends to hurt along with the person.
I don't think it's wrong if you don't care about the person. Maybe you have a better grasp on your reality than I do on mine. I'm sure in one day, thousands of people 'off' themselves on a daily basis... do I care about them? Not really, but when you know so much about a person throught the media and what have you, especially the life and times of the big names in the news lately, you don't want their story to end. They almost feel like a neighbour.
Will I rush out to buy Britney's new album if there is one, no... not a chance. There is a human factor there tho that I can't help but feel for.

I can understand the position you take. Her life over the last few years has been a highly pubicized gong show. But she does have two children and for their sake, I hope she straightens herself out.

The best thing that could happen to those kids is for a normal loving family to adopt them, and that they never learn who their real parents are. Sad that people like her breed.

The only chance for her kids is to get out now.
I'm sorry if I sound cold, but I have zero compassion for her. People like this are an utter waste of skin in my opinion. She BEGS for the spotlight and is an absolute attention whore whos's life is a complete self-made void and then she makes it worse by getting married and trying to fill the void with children. She contributes nothing as a human being. Does anything for stardom, and then destroys everything she touches to try and keep that stardom. I hope her next attempt is a sucessful one.

I care as much about her dying I guess as I would any other stranger. Yes it is sad. I won't lose any sleep over it. But if this was the same story told to me by a co-worker or friend about a normal person that I didn't know. I would feel much worse about the situation. It is something about it being flitered through the media and seeing it at the bottom of the screen go by on a news ticker. It is so unattached for me.
The amount of energy and time that is spent reporting about celebrities is really quite sad. It is such a giant waste. Entertainment Tonight is single handedly dumbing down society. There are people I know that can tell me what some actress is going to wear to an award show and at the same time not tell me how our voting system works.
Slight off-topic. Why are people still talking about Anna Nicole Smith? Did this women do something that I am not aware of that warrantes so much attention? As far as I can tell this was her life: has big boobs, poses in Playboy, gold digging, gets fat, has terrible television show, loses weight. I don't get it.

I would suggest that you don't know her at all, so who are you to say she begged for the spotlight? Who are you to say that she's the one who made her life what it is? She was what, 16 when she hit it big? Whose fault is that? She was in the Mickey Mouse Club at 10 or so... now I know that she didn't decide to audition or make it to that audition without her parents...
People do what they are taught/allowed to do. Look no further than her screwed up childhood and her parents if you'd like to blame anyone for the life she's developed. She has an audience of millions and every time she screws up it's reported in the news... from the time she's 16. Do you think you'd be normal after that? Britney, along with many other child stars whose parents 'encouraged' such actions, are excellent examples of what happens when a parent pushes a child too hard too early.
And if the media stayed out of her personal life, I'm sure it would be much different.
