I appreciate that. I'm not trying to stir the pot or anything but its just been really annoying that every time i sign in my sig is tampered with for reasons that are not against the rules.

Thanks again.

ATR, I think the history of sigs vis-a-vis the wording in the guidelines document needs to be clarified for you. Sigs were never intended to be 400 wide AND 150 high. Typically they were 100-110 high. 125 at most. But for the few people that prefered a squarish or taller one, 150 was allowed, with the intention that it was a skinny one.

That history was lossed in the translation over time.

Personally, when I view other forums, and see the massive sigs allowed, it just takes away from the content of what people are saying. As for your sigs, I remember one with a gif inside a flame that was very, very original, and if I recall correctly, was actually quite small in filesize. I was impressed by it! And it wasn't all that large in footprint. Something like that with quality over quantity really speaks to your ability and more importantly, thoughtfulness to those that lurk or prefer to surf without being signed in. In those cases, having the options to turn off signatures isn't there. And as Sutter would say, to be quite frank... appearance IS important to these forums. This is a class act meeting place of minds. A lot of work has gone on to make it so over the years. I for one hope that effort continues.

Photon, one item that has come to mind. Text in sigs HAS seemed to increase lately, both in volume and font size. Any way to limit the font size within them, preferably smaller than the default text size? A, it would shrink the sig footprints down, and B, it would help differentiate what is post and what is sig (yes there is a line separating them.... old age, bad video card and rum n' cokes don't help though!)

Last note to ATR, take this post for what it is worth, a little history about CP. It is not meant to admonish you in any way. Just a heads up as to where we were, where we are, and where we probably will be.... and why.

Cheers.

Hm, not sure if that's doable with the software, but that's a good idea (font size thing). I'll check into it.

Even if it's not doable within the software, you can just make it a rule to be followed like the other guidelines.

Just a general observation and not directed towards anyone here

I always thought that CrazyJoe did some wonderful things under 80px high. It seems the sigs keep growing in size and quotes being added below. Right now you can find a sig over 100px with five lines of text below it. I'm a graphics guy, I love them but I do think that it's something that the site should keeping picking at because as a graphics person it's only in our nature to just keep pushing the limits of what we can do.... if there's a relax in restrictions it will get out of hand very quickly.

Also sigs are a privilege and not a right
