So what's everyone's favorite show on CJSW?
My friend hosts Pop Beats & Cigarettes but I haven't really had a chance to listen since I have classes during those hours.
And now I finally know what a friends card is.

CJSR (UofA) does the same thing and very few students have a problem paying a levey. Campus radio is great for the community to have and an amazing service for students. I'm sure if your a student and had a problem you could try and get the levey revoked and be crushed by most of the other students
|
Most students don't know they are paying a levy. Alot of others find the levy so small that it is negligable or a waste of time to fight. I was a student at the UofC for five years and have yet to listen to that radio station. [/b][/quote]
Well I didn't even know this thing existed until reading this thread. I'm listening now and so far it's just 2 people gnattering away about sending your pledges in. I demand music!
Unfortunately, i've never been more happy with the current setup of radio in Calgary, so I doubt i'll be donating anything. CJAY 92, JACK FM, The EAGLE and Q107 all play various types of rock music so chances are something I like will be on the radio at any given time. But I do hope the station stays around nonetheless, looks like they have some good variety.
Hey, they just said 1 700 dollars has been raised since this show started at noon. That's good news...

yeah, if you want to hear the actual music, the pledge drive is not the best time to listen. Try it again next week....and if you still dont like it, try it at another time. The beauty of the station is that there is a crapload of variety packed into one little airwave.

I really should listen to CJSW more than I do, but in my past experience dealing with some of the people associated with the station I get this holier than thou vibe that turns me off. Yes you liked Radiohead before OK Computer and no one but you had even heard of Elliot Smith before he died...good for you, now get over yourself.
I agree, it's a nice station to have around but with the internet I find it less and less important....Many of the people (not everyone) that hang around there have this music snob arrogance that I have no need for.

Woops. Didn't send my pledge in this year, though I'm in Japan and until they get their streaming supported.
Good station. I used to be involved in it for a number of years. It's one of the better campus stations in North America, actually.

Very kooky station. I always liked it though...where else would you ever hear "Bitchin' Camaro" on the radio?

I can't speak about CJSW and the people and music and other things with it but I can on campus radio in general.
So I will. It’s great because there is so much variety from show to show and aside from fundrive they are always an entertaining listen. I don't like every show but most are always worth a listen and make the loss bus trip to campus better than it would be. Also CJSR up here has Bears Football and Hockey games on and thats another bonus.
Sure it’s not the nice predictable stuff of commercial radio but that’s what makes it better to me

and they can play the band "######" and actually say it on the air. I get a kick out of that.

hehe, uttering Usher is on the same par as saying "scoreboard". no matter what the arguement, you automatically win with that statement.

I'm listening online right now. I think it's been "fixed".
Other observations -- they are playing Clutch right now and you can't hear that anywhere else. Also, I can't believe Forbidden Dimension is still around and playing shows. Those guys must be 40 years old.

Scoring Winger

When I was a younger kid, my friends would occasionally force me to listen to it, and I thought it was junk. I guess it was only on fridays, there was some friday night techno program or something.
I have only turned on CJSW once, in my 3 years of going to the U OF C. They were having some politcal discussions and they were absolute junk. Maybe it was just the 2 personalites on that day. But with mix CD's, and lots of other Radio stations, I find it hard to give them a second chance.
Maybe some day I will.
I will add that I also am not a fan of paying a levy to them, and I never attended an Usher concert. I don't go through the trouble of opting out, just because I do well on a couple of the other levys they have and if people opted out of those ones, Id lose out.

what a childish rebutle. When one cant' come up with a reasonable arguement, they resort to comments like that. Which basically means they concede
