Man, I saw this one film from the Czech Republic before really late at night on Bravo. It was a few years back and was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen.
From what I remember, the lead guy was a priest, and I think the only actual human. The rest of the characters were maniquins (sp) or marienette (sp) puppets. I can't remember the story, and it was far too wierd to follow. All I remember was that he had sex with one of the puppets and then it turned into satan. It was the creepiest movie.
Anyone see that one?

Sounds like you might be talking about Faust, by the famous Czech stop-motion filmmaker Jan Svankmejer. He also has a really whacked version of Alice in Wonderland, simply called Alice. Has a real human playing alice, but then all the animals she encounters are done with taxidermied animals and stop-motion. He also has a lot of short films that are really famous. Most of his work is a scathing commentary on Communism.

I genuinely enjoyed He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. It stars the girl from Amelie, and is a good, albeit somewhat confusing, drama
edit: forgot El Mariachi

I can't remember the name of my favorite foreign film, but if anyone can, I would appreciate it.
Its about a young Jewish boy who tries to hide his jewishness during the second world war. He ends up as a war hero and a nazi youth leader by a unfortunate series of events.
Its actually a comedy
Y Tu Mama Tambien cheater this was just on Bravo this friday, great movie except for the diving board scene. I could do without that.

Yes, that is it!
Thanks. I'm going to try and track this down. I'd like to see it again.

yeah I would have to say Life is Beautiful is one ofthe best foreign films that I have seen
the worst though I haven't seen
it is illegal in most countries it's only illegal for Canada in Ontario and British Columbia and that's the italian film "Salo" or otherwise known as "120 Days of Sodom". To many this is the most disturbing piece of poor taste ever made.
Eversince I read about it it still makes me sick. As one reporter said I saw it three years ago and there isnt a day I haven't thought about it.

Fave: The remake of Iron Monkey a few years back.
Not-So-Fave: All others.
I wanted to say Fubar, cause by Hollywood standards it's foriegn. That and WayDownTown. Gotta love Calgary's +15 system.

Hey, I think I've seen the one you mean. Does he get an infection as a result of attempting to disguise his um... Jewishness? And there's a bit where he's singled out amongst his classmates about having a particularly perfectly proportioned arian skull? If so, yeah, I've seen that. No idea what it's called, though.
Also, the mention of Waydowntown reminds me of a quote by an American that I really love: "Canadians are the only culture in the world who file their own films in the 'foreign' sections of their video stores."

It was such a great movie, and I'd like to see it again

Irreversible was insane! I can't tell you whether I enjoyed it or not, but it sure stuck with me for a while. That dude getting killed with the fire extinguisher. My theory is that they paid a hobo off the street and really beat him to death with a fire extinguisher.

I never saw that movie a friend of mine did though. I read some stuff on it. From what i know in the rape scene of irreversible the actors were actually husband and wife. The peneration scenes were real.

That is not true. Sure Vincent Cassels and Monica Bellucci are (were?) married at the time of the movie - but (possible spoilers) he does not play the character that rapes her. There is no visable penetration either.
