I didn't expect the poll to be so nicely split. Looks like there are a lot of differing opinions on the matter.

I think it's fine. It's your jersey, your gift, and you celebrate the Flames in your own unique way. You do what you want.
P.S. I'd never be embarrassed to be seen at a game with you, because I'm usually making a spectacle of myself right beside you! Good Times!!

As a kid, it seemed cooler to have your own name on your jersey... obviously, it's a mixed view once yout get older. However, it's your jersey, so if you want to put your own name on it, then why the hell not. If someone else thinks its lame, then too freaking bad for them
However, since it's probably the last year for this style of jersey (and you're probably getting a new one), I wouldn't worry about getting an actual player's name and number because even if the player gets traded a few years from now, the jersey is still current because the player still played on the team when that jersey was in use (if that makes sense)...
Agreed, no old players on new jerseys (Lanny), players who never played here (Gretzky), and stupid names and/or numbers ("Cool Guy", "69")

Tell that to the 10,000 people who show up at the Dome wearing Flames jerseys
Besides, wearing a jersey to the game is cool... wearing a helmet and shoulder pads however...

Personally, I wont put my own name on a Flames Jersey, but I do have it on my Team Canada Jersey.

Not a big fan of it, I'd never do it.
But "allowed to do it", of course you should be allowed to do it. Put whatever the heck you want on it.

Not something I've ever done with the jersies I own, but people can do it...
What gets me is when peope cheap out and get a name/number put on a jersey that isn't the colour scheme/font that the team uses.

add me to the list of people who think it's lame. If you've never played a game for them, you don't deserve to have your last name on the back.

Teams themselves do it all the time. Celebrities, dignitaries... any excuse for a publicity photo.
Whatever's your bag.

I don't like the idea personally, but who cares? If you want to put your own name on it, then go for it.

Nothing is more of a ****-off than getting a lettered jersey of a former flame... big waste of $200. Who wants to wear a Morris or Fleury jersey anymore?
Get your name, at least you're not going to be obsolete any time soon...

"Colt

or

Custom "clever" names are the way to go (in spite of what someone said earlier)
Why not an Iginla or Kipper? Sure everyone has one...but there's a pretty good reason why. If you wanna' be unique, any red Flames jersey isn't doing it in this town.

I voted yes because it's your money, and I agree that a true fan is part of the team.
However, I also think it's lame and the funny ones are even lamer IMO.

Had a thread about this very subject a few months ago.
Add me to the list of people who think it's borderline homosexual to have another man's name on your back. It's not for me anyways.
Oh wait, someone has already nailed it. Couldn't have said it better.
Quote:
a) It seems wrong to be seen "idolizing" someone who's earning millions of $$ more than me simply because he's a genetically gifted S.O.B.
b) Any player is likely to be playing for another team when all is said and done, and
c) There's something lame about a grown man wearing the name of another grown man on his back, especially if the player with the name happens to be younger than the man wearing the jersey. A middle-aged man in a Phaneuf jersey creeps me out.

Seriously... it's your money. You won't go to jail. The jersey police does not exist... YET... If you want to wear this jersey for years without the fear of trades of free agency... by all means put your name on it.
As for it being homosexual... if enjoying the on ice play of a man I am not physically attracted to, which I decided to put on a jersey and wear at various Flames games, and while watching from the compfort of my MAN ROOM makes me homosexual for Stephane Yelle... I guess I'm a happily married to an awesome woman homosexual.

I dunno, you have quite the man crush on him. I've seen you get giddy at the mere mention of his name.

Its something that I woudn't do myself. But it is a free country. Not cool? Who cares! If you want to do it go ahead. I actually get a kick out some of the customized jerseys you see at the Dome. "Ozzy" 666, "Oilers Suck", things like that.
