duh....the wii has access to the internet, the internet has porn. its exactly the same as if you have a computer at home that your child has access to for playing pinball or treasure island!

honestly, the article is written as if nintendo is markerting porn on the internet

I'm no expert on this thing but I would imagine you would have to seek out porn on a Wii as well. I'm sure dirty movies don't just pop up on the screen out of the blue.

Despite what this somewhat hysterical article implies, the smut business works like everything else -- they are after money and aren't looking to randomly distribute their product for free.

Exactly. Dont download the browser. Don't expect that a computer wont do what computers do. Do monitor what your kids are up to.

No kidding. Why does our world have to be so kid proof? To me it seems that some parents are needlessly sheltering their children at times. That or they don't want to monitor what they're kids are doing. If it was up to some parents out there the tv, video games and the internet would be child proof and the parents won't have to do anything! God forbid they parent, thank goodness the tv and internet can raise our children.

being as it's primarily marketed to children i'd be pretty surprised if nintendo hadn't invented a browser that only goes to a certain list of sites.

Really? I don't think so. In fact i don't think they have done any marketing what so ever. They had a press release saying they aren't going to market the wii until it is readily available.

that's where the web browser comes in

nintendo isn't just marketing internet porn - they INVENTED internet porn.
nay - porn in general.

seriously... if your kid is that much of a horn-dog and him seeing a boob will bring the apocalypse, DON"T PLUG IT INTO THE INTERNET

Are you sure there are no parental controls on the Wii browser? I find that hard to believe given the target audience.

they give you a daily report of all the games you played and how much time you wasted during the day. I hate those logs. hehe

So aside from these logs, there is no way to prevent a child from surfing onto a site that contains adult (or worse, illegal) content? By the time a parent looked at the log and found out the content their kid just looked at, wouldn't it be too late?

Yup, there is a foolproof way:

Parental supervision

First of all, it would take forever to type in the web addresses and navigate to these illegal pages. As well, the pages are small and hard to make out. Now, I can see this being a problem if parents:
a) Don't check on the kids now and then.
b) Don't wonder why there are no game sounds coming from the living room when they are supposedly playing games.

Of course this won't be a problem, if like was mentioned before, parental control is enabled and access to the web browser is disabled. There, problem solved. Now the kid can't get online without the 4-digit pin.

Why this can't be understood, I'm not sure. Takes 1 minute to solve this potential illegal and unmoral problem.

let's face it, if your kid is at the age where he is trying to access porn, he will find it whether you have a wii or not. the kid would probably much better be served by you sitting him down and teaching him the rights and the wrongs about sex, than you trying to block him or pretending that he is too young for the subject.
