well, if we're in a global war on terror and the #1 and #2 news items i just heard on US radio news break was:

1) the dead pigeons in austin TX terror scare, now being metered by other sources as being a city poisoning of the flying rats and a couple cops having a psycho-sematic (sp?) reaction.

2) the heroic victory of our forces over the dangers of a 2'x3' box of plumbing supplies in florida, it was close but governmnet forces prevailed.

if the madrid bombing is below these two, then...

That's kind of unfair. The Texas and Florida thing could potentially have a direct impact on the people you they are broadcasting the new to. They didn't have any real effect, ninetheless the potential was there. While the Basques bombing a parkade is definately bigger, but will do very little to change an American's life (or my simple Canadian life for that matter).

Also the battle against boxes and industrial accident happened today, while the parkade was bombed two days ago. That's damn near a lifetime in today's instant communication culture.

well, my post was in response to a suggestion that a coordination like this could look like the work of a terror group, when easily in my opinion these stories are all huge due to media hype.

No argument there. All three were mildly interesting stoires on a local level, but they didn't deserve the hours of BREAKING NEWS coverage CNN gave them.

Although that grainy black and white shot (spotlighted and enhanced) showing the puff of smoke after they blew up a box in Miami. Cooooool. I only wish they had shown it 20 times instead of 15.

As Looger has pointed out American news is great for navel gazing but is barely informative on what's going on in the rest of the world. No wonder Americans often don't know whats going on and elect leaders who also don't know what's going on.
