Well, I actually want a Wii more than a PS3. I'm in the Court of Queen's Bench.

Just a quick question regarding bluray. Am I right in assuming that it is a completely different system that will not play regular DVD's. Do HDDVD play regular DVD's?

That's the main advantage of HDDVD. It is still compatible with DVD and manufacturers do not have to retool. Furthermore, publishers can combine both DVD and HD on one disc so people without HDDVD don't have to upgrade as of yet.

That's also the main criticism of Blu-Ray that it forces everybody to spend more for no real advantage except a larger increase in capacity in the future over HDDVD. But do you really think we need 200GB movies?

I get a sense the hype for the PS3 has died down. Price is a factor but I think the biggest thing is lack of decent games out now and lack of games to come in the next few months. Go here and keep clicking next week to see the awesome lack of PS3 exclusive games coming out.

There's a few sites on the web that have taken apart a PS3. The thermal design is much more well thoughout on the PS3 than the Xbox. A friend of mine as an August 06 manufactured Xbox and it still died in 3 days. He's also going through hell, Bangalore style, trying to get it fixed.

That said, the launch games for PS3 just aren't impressive enough to woo me....yet. I really wasn't gaga for a X360 till GoW - but still can't pull the trigger till a victor emerges. So I went for a Wii..

Yeah, the cooling system for the PS3 is quite impressive.. and contributes a good chunk of the $$ of making the system I'm sure.

I'm laughing at all the people who spent a ton of coin thinking they would strike it rich by auctioning them off. A lot of them took a bath and made little or no profit. No different from scalping IMO.

There was a lot of hype about scalping but the general rule of thumb is that if you don't scalp within the first week when the system is actually rare enough and the hype is high enough, you aren't going to make those big bucks. A couple of people in that week made close to 2 grand on each system sold. Everybody else (like a friend of mine) made a total of $40 after shipping and ebay fees...

No, you are wrong.

Blu-Ray players play regular DVD's. I currently have the PS3 running a 1995 DVD disc of Braveheart right now.

It has separate red lasers for reading DVD and CD since it needs to be compatible with old PS2 games on DVD.

I understood his question to be asking if a Blu-Ray player could play regular DVD's. In the case of the PS3, it can.

Do non PS3 Blu-Ray players play regular DVD's at all? I didnt stop to think that they are achieving it by using two different layers. Maybe the non PS3 players dont play both - I dont know. Given that the PS3 does, it is a good reason to use it as my Blu-Ray player.

Someone I know got $2600.00 for his PS3 the first week or so, though you won't be making any profit as of now anymore.

I walked into Toys R US the other day and they had 20 or so Nunchucks available. I bought 3 but now I need 2 more controllers. Bought this system as a last minute gift for the kids.
