Unless as RMS pointed out, you work for Wallmart, but back on topic, the two litre bottles are going for $.97.

High rates? It's around $9.00 a week. And with that you end up getting $16.65/hr if you stick around for 7500 hours. On top of that you get a $1.00 morning premium, $2.00 at night, and $0.75 on sundays. Full time employees also get an extra $2.00 an hour. If you work 10 hours a week they give you dental coverage. Work 35 hours a week and they cover your AB health care. On top of this you also get a pension after working only 2 years. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I know Wal-Mart doesn't give near that much.

I can vouch that Superstore has an amazing dental plan. A root canal, plus gold crown only costed me $200

I normally don't buy coke in cans, just in 2L's, because when I drink coke, it's with Whiskey in it and with cans I end up with so much extra coke still in the can left. 2L's are just easier for me.
That said, what is the usual price for 23 packs of coke? Is this such a great deal that it would be worth it for me to go and buy some and just get used to the cans for a while?

I forgot to mention, because it was of little interest to me, that they have skids and skids of the 2L Canada Dry: Regular, Lemon, Cranberry, and the blue label one (can't remember what it was, maybe tonic or soda water) all for $0.67.
I dont think any bottle Coke was that cheap.

Yes, I did. The expiry date is September 2007.
I bought 24 cases. I expect that should last right through the Playoffs and Playoff parties.

There are sales every few months, where you can 12 packs at Safeway, Superstore and Walmart for $3.33, or rarely $3. Normally, Superstore and Walmart are about $3.83. Co-op, IGA, and others have a regular price around $6 for 12.

Yeah... dont crunch the numbers. They dont look good ...
Being a computer programmer, Coke is a food group. I probably average 1 a day. Flames game days are probably 2. Sad to say, sometimes more...
My brother drinks about the same, and he ussually watches the games over at my place. Is it possible that 24 cases isnt enough to last the playoff run?
Aside from the Coke, I eat pretty healthy... hopefully, it all balances out.

According to my numbers: If you by a 24 pack of coke from Walmart at $4.97 it means you are paying .000583 cents per ml of coke.
If you buy the 2L bottle for .99 cents a bottle, it works out to .000495 cents per ml. So the two litre bottle is still the best deal.
The problem is you usually have to drink the whole 2 L bottle within a day or two of opening it. The cans are good if you don't drink much.

Actually, your decimals are off. It's 0.0583 cents or 0.000583 dollars per mL for the cans and 0.0495 cents or 0.00495 dollars per mL for the bottles. You don't work for Verizon, do you?
Also, because the deposits are charged per container, you'll pay $1.20 in deposits on the cans (5 cents each), but only 20 cents for a bottle. If you want an equal volume of pop: 24 cans has 8.52L of Coke, so you'd need a little over 4 bottles. If you bought 5 bottles, the deposit would be $1.00. The deposit is refundable, but you still have to incur the upfront costs and many people give their bottles and cans away, so they never reclaim the money.
A 24 can pack for $4.97 will actually cost $6.47 (after GST and deposit). 5 bottles at $0.99 each will cost $6.25 (after GST and deposit) and will actually give you 1.48L more Coke than the cans.
Whoa, too much Coke math.

I see what your talking about with regards to the decimals but I think everyone knew what I ment. A lot of people still write .25 without the dollar sign and say twenty five cents.....but what ever.
As for the deposit.....I didn't calculate it because you get it back to it is really a non issue.....but I don;t want to start a big fight over coke cola.
Any how you are just restating what I posted.

Loblaws is Superstore. Loblaws tried their hand in Western Canada a few years ago, but the negative vibe from Western Canada to a Eastern Company's product ran Loblaws out in Western Canada. Safeway tried to monopolize the market by putting a Safeway in every community (especially new communities), ie. spatial entry barriers. When Safeway was limited to their spatial monopoly, Loblaws made a comeback into Alberta under the new name "Superstore" and was a hit to the mom's buying bulk. Save-on-Foods decided to then enter the market, and Safeway's profits plummetted as they became the new 7-11, ie. people would go to Superstore or Save-on-Foods for their major purchases, and Safeway is the one you stop by on your way home for a loaf of bread.
Anyways, back to the thread...

my union contract is forcing my wages to stay low while other peoples are rising like mad due to labor shortage. Seems like a good plan to me!

Nice one brother!
Diet Coke is horrible! I am a recovering diet-coke addict (my drug of choice is Coca Cola Zero), every once and a while, I slip... but for the most part I have been clean for about a year now.
My friend's Mom did her master's thesis on the effects of aspartame on the brain, and her final conclusion was that it causes actual holes in your brain tissue. She would always say "Would you rather be smart and fat or dumb and skinny?"... ha ha ha
I understand the uses for it if you are a diabetic, but for people who try to eat healthy, artificial sweeteners are probably one of the most hazardous things to ingest. I've also read, just recently on msn, that people who often drink diet pop tend to have a harder time self-regulating their calories. Plus, caffeine speeds up your metabolism, so while regular coke can accompany that with the mounds of sugar, diet coke can not, so therefor will make you more hungry after you drink it.
Wow, a union post and an anti-aspartame post in the same thread! I'm on a roll!!!

Gee what a great deal so you only have to devote yourself to the company for nearly 4 years (averaging 40 hour work week) to be making approx. $20/hour. But if that is your career aspirations that's your choice.
Don't be fooled by dental coverage plans, you have to really read the fine print to determine if it really is a good plan.
Great sale on Coke though but not one I would take advantage of. I can use a 1 liter of coke for an entire night of drinking, nothing beats the rum, water splash of coke (especially when it comes to hangovers)

I used to love Coke and I would have jumped all over this deal.
Unfortunatley, I don't like the fact that the average person in North America consumes over 56 gallons of Soft Drinks each year. That is about 600 cans. Each can has about 10 teaspoons of sugar. This I cannot consume (well I still drink it with my whiskey).
