The hat or the cologne? Either one is bad, but I think I'd prefer the hat.

My worst gift was the Christmas after I had my oldest son 7 years ago (his b-day today, so obviously he was only 10 days old at the time). I had gained quite a bit of weight during that pregnancy and was of course feeling extra fat and on top of it, extra emotional b/c of the hormonal changes that come with having a baby. I opened a gift from my sister and it was a very ugly bathrobe with pink pigs all over it and these huge pink pig slippers!! I was a little too sensitive right at that time and took it a little too personally b/c of the way I was feeling. My dad tried to talk her out of giving it to me but she didn't see the issue with it and I guess b/c I'm thinking rationally about it now there really wasn't an issue but the hormones control you at that time.

... I guess it's not as bad as the gym membership my friend got from her husband one Christmas; 6 weeks after she had their baby Out of spite she didn't use it .. although I would have; free gym membership - woo hoo!!

Hey, here's a funny one. My coworker saw this thread and wanted to participate. Here's a rough summary of what he said...

"A few years ago when I was a child, I had some very distant relatives in England that I had never seen. As it turns out, they were visiting Canada and was invited to stay with my parents. Now, they know my parents have 2 children, my sister and I, and they weren't going to make it to Canada in time for Christmas, so they decided to send gifts to us in advance.

On Christmas day, I had 3 gifts from my distant relatives. I was incredibly excited. I opened the first one and it was a barbie doll set. Thinking "ok, this is probably for my sister" I got my sister to open up her gift. She got a dress. I'm thinking...the gifts must be mixed up...out of 6 gifts (3 each), the first 2 we opened must be for her. Somehow, they messed up on the lables. That wasn't the case. Turns out, I got a dress as well, a barbie doll set, and an easy bake oven. My relatives thought I was a girl!!"

I'm a total music geek, with rather eclectic tastes and some very pronounced biases. So one Christmas my sister tried to impress me by giving me an Abba's Greatest Hits tape. There isn't much music I have less respect for than Abba's, so my sister really proved how little she knows me with that gift. Of course she's a big Abba fan, so she thought it was a wonderful gift. The lesson here I guess is don't give music as a gift unless you're really sure you know the person's tastes.

I got a hollowed out grenade from my uncle once. I thought it was pretty cool at the time, but looking back on it I relaize how little thought he put into it, seeing as it was given to him as a gag gift a few christmas' before that.

hahahaha.
I got a flipping Oilers Tshirt from my aunt when i was in Grade 6. I guess i couldn't blame her since she's from St. Albert. It was fun shredding it with scissors everytime we lost to them.

I used to get so ****ed when we lost to the Oilers(which was almost all the time until Vernon started playing)
I tore apart at least 1 Gretzky rookie card and about 10 2nd year cards. ALL my Messier, Kurri, Coffey and Fuhr rookies. I think i must have tore apart about 400-500 oiler cards all together.
All my old hockey news yearbooks with Oiler pictures have their faces punctured.

I got a box, thinking it was a watch when I opened it I had received a pen and a lead pencil, the price tag was still on it $3.99 it was doubled as a B-Day gift also, so I guess the pen was for X-mas and the Pencil for my b-day. What a load of crap.

Or one time I had a Hulk Hogan action figure, the guy seen it sitting there, so he goe sout and get me the exact same one. What the hell.

I learned that it is mandatory to walk on egg shells when you are around and/or interacting with a lady who recently gave birth... and for up to 9 months depending on the woman/situation.

My parents gave me a dollar store set of 3 neon x-acto knives last year. I'm serious. That's it.

I've received nothing a few times. Apparently my relatives think I've gotten too old or something.

Seconded. My Godparents used to give awesome presents. Hockey books, video games, some really nice stuff.

The last 3 years? "Ye Ol box of Random junk". A used travel book from Japan? A candy cane? Some crappy dollar store plastic junk.

They are even Flames fans, and know how fanatical I am! Christ, buy me a bumper sticker or something. I mean, I gave them the BattleStar box set last year, and a solar powered remote control car the year before (they are electrical engineers). This year, I am tempted to just show up and give out hugs.

I love em, but quid pro quo.

My girlfriend would give a swift kick to the junk for Christmas if I did that.
