Your stereotype is outdated.

3. The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

4. The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 40 years old. In 2006, 93 percent of computer game buyers and 83 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18.

7. Thirty-five percent of American parents say they play computer and video games. Further, 80 percent of gamer parents say they play video games with their kids. Sixty-six percent feel that playing games has brought their families closer together.

8. Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (30%) than boys age 17 or younger (23%).

There is more women over 18 than your "typical 16 year" boy playing.

I'd like to see more about that study and how accurate it may actually be. I don't doubt that many video gamers are adults, but this point doesn't make sense to me..

3. The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

Why would they start playing video games at 21?

This would be my guess.

Are you 7 years old? Get a Box or a PS3..Real gamers, not that kiddy game crap. Nintendo is way past due, they will die soon like Sega.

I'm not saying i agree with the stereotype. I'm just saying that the Shwarzenegger type Gears of War characters seem to perpetuate the old stereotypes about gamers and thier want to play macho, ultraviolent games. I think a lot of games and gamers are more sophisticated than the non-gamer gives them credit for.

Don't get me wrong though, sometimes its fun to violently unleash your fury on a legion of digital bad guys.

haha - yeah right!

38% of gamers are women?!?! gahahahahahahahahahaha....

Walk down the street and ask people. I 100% guarentee you would not be able to maintain a 3.8 out of every 10 count of women video game players.

And that is before considering hours played. Even if 38% of people who pick up a controller are women, they probably play 1% of the total hours played.

Further, just because the buyer of the game is an adult does not mean he is either (1) the player or (2) mature in his life outlook. Counting a bunch of 40 year old socially ######ed recluses that are too fat to leave the house even if they wanted as 'mature people who happen to play violent video games with most/all of their free time' is not really a good way to make a point IMO.

As much as I prefer Sony and Microsoft over Nintendo if Nintendo was going to die they would have died a long time ago.

Isn't Nintendo the only console out of the 3 to actually make money? Hardly seems like a company on the verge of death. White Snow Bear just seems to be bitter for some reason...

Claeren.
Judging by the sales figures of games, there must be millions upon millions
of these socially ######ed fatties out there. I don't really know what playing games has to do with having a muture outlook on life, but I think stereotyping most gamers as 40 year old social ######s tells me a little something about your maturity. I suppose you spend the majority of your time sipping tea and reading up on politics and listening to Mozart? Or maybe you just watch terrible reality TV, which is probably a worse way to spend your free time.

Look. These are the numbers I found. Feel free to show me the stats backing your opinion. You would be surprised how many girls play video games. They just don't talk about it as openly as guys do.

The article has a stat on the buyers.

"4. The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 40 years old. In 2006, 93 percent of computer game buyers and 83 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18."

I never made any claims on the maturity of said individuals. But again you are just pulling things out of nowhere here. So gamers are immature 16 year olds with a gore and blood fix and 40 year old recluses scared of the outside world and society. Riiiiiight. That makes alot of sense. People played video games when they were in thier late teens and twentys I don't see why they wouldn't stop into their 30's if they so choose.

And White Snow Bear feel free to stop posting in this thread if you have nothing to add.

My company gave everybody a Wii in the first week of December (we are doing some work with Nintendo). We recently shipped our first Wii title (a port of an older game), and I can tell you this little console does a lot of things really well.

I really like that they are trying new things with the controllers. I also like the price, and the fact you can plug Gamecube controllers into it (so no, you don’t necessarily need to drop $210 if you want to play a 4 person game). It’s brand new, so not much in the way of games for it, but that will change pretty quickly. I love that a lot of titles aren’t going to be the standard sports/first person shooter/ racing game you see so often for PS2.

Anybody who thinks Nintendo is just for kids hasn’t picked up Resident Evil IV (a great game so long as you can get past the camera controls).

I am thrilled with it. If you are thinking of buying a console, my recommendation is the Wii until the prices drop on PS3, and the 360 comes out with a second generation (I had some serious overheating issues when playing Oblivion for an extended period).

Saw the title and just had to link to this comic.

And just to add something of value here, although it's not really a next generation type console, some of the mechanic changes in the Wii seem interesting (like the controller). Should allow some developers to use their imagination a bit more when coming up with new titles.

It's not that they think that every game is for kids. It's the fact that they think that there arent enough mature games released that makes people think of Nintendo as kiddish.

Actually its true, and in MMORPGs in particular they are starting to outnumber men. I think the demographic is almost 50/50 in World of Warcraft, even higher in some of the other ones.

A lot of stay at home moms play them.

Yeesh........ Someone's got their seal skin panties in a knot.

I am not a "gamer". That's why the Wii looks interesting to me. It's different. I know I would lose interest in a Xbox or PS3 and I won't waste my money on it. Is that okay with you? Will my Wii stop working if Nintendo "dies"?

Hey I bought a Wii, not a PS3 or XBox360 and while I don't know what constitutes a 'real gamer', I've probably been playing games longer then you while also owning and playing more systems then you have.

No, i just hate Nintendo because they always dissapoint. I bought a Cube, and it turned out to be so bad. The Wii Wii is even worse, it's like made out of cardboard and so friggin cheap and steered towards little kids. Look at all their games so far, i think 2 out of 15 got better than an 8 rating, the thing sucks.
