If you REALLY like ribs go to Ribfest if you happen to be in Ontario next summer. I was there last year in Toronto (first week of July) and there were some amazing rib places from all over North America. I think the ribfest travels around Southern Ontario for most of July.

My favourite there was this one based out of Kansas City.

They used to hold on in London (ON) every Aug. long weekend (Frank - do they still do this?) and it was interesting tying them out, but since they were charity fundraisers, it was pretty expensive, too.

Swiss Chalet is good if you just want a good dinner to pick up.

This may be a useless post:

But in my opinion, Tony Roma's =

I don't like them one iota.

Ever watch them thar barbecue contests on the food channel? Damn that looks like fine food.

It's always some good ol' boys (never meaning no harm) with what looks like a steam engine for a barbecue and he has some elaborate sauces and rubs that he won't tell you about and he's cooking his ribs for 15 hours before the "taste off". Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

definitely, those always look so damn tasty. Which sort of makes me question how any chain like Tony Roma's or Earl's can even come close.

I've had the full rack of ribs at Tony Roma's about 5 times. Once they were great twice they were fatty and gross, and the others were just average. I wonder why I keep going back... oh right, coupons.

You never cease to amaze me. I had them a few weeks ago - there was actually a good amount of meat on them, decent sauce, and quite tender.

This is true. I dont like Montana's at all, such a fake smokey taste. If you want a very easy, very tasty recipe, done the Southern USA way slow baked with homemade rub spice, then sauce, I have one.

Tony Roma's is terrible.

Earl's ribs are way better if you are looking for a chain.

The best ribs in Calgary are Bookers, Palomino. Big T's are alright...as in better than Tony Roma's

If you are in the Flathead Valley area of Montana you have to try the country style ribs at The Back Room in columbia falls or the Piggyback BBQ in Whitefish. The owner of the piggyback is a young guy in his 20's from Raonoke, Virginia and he knows BBQ.
