Hey any shutout victory is an needed victory and logically a steal (the other team can't win if they don't score right?). Maybe they were easy games and he had a good defense in front of him but he doesn't control those factors. He just makes the stops when he needs to.
No he's not the most talented goalie, but I think we got one of the best back-ups if not the best back-up in the league and now at a back-up price. and we will win his share and steal one or two over the course of the season, which is all a back-up needs to do.

That's where you lost me pal. Completley lost me. If he was a great goalie he wouldn't be a back up. He hasn't been able to get the job done for some time.
No reason to bash him? Besides his on average one awful goal per game? His plain average numbers? Come on now, you can't be serious.

Hell I agree with you. He is going to be a fantastic back up! No pressure? That is where Roman Turek thrives!
I just find it mind boggling when someone thinks pointing out minus's in his game is "bashing" him. He lets in plenty of soft goals, he doesn't use his size effectively at all, he has very average numbers, his mental game is brutal. That is what keeps him from being a #1 goalie and just being a back up.
PRetty easy to understand isn't it?

Alright, great was a over statement on my part... But looking at his career stats:
159-115-43, 27 SO, 2.31GAA, .907 sv% is a pretty good career no? He may not be a world class goaltender anymore but IMO he's above average, even as a starting 'tender. Which he isn't at the moment.

Ya, it was kind of a massive overstatement, glad you could see that.
His career numbers are okay. Nothing to get giddy over, and they really don't have much to do with him heading into the future. Alot of those good numbers come from his time during a back up goalie in Dallas. He has only ever had one above average season as a starter, that was his first year in St. Louis. He has never had a season better then average since coming to Calgary. Last year his numbers got better, because he fit back into a back up role.
Above average as a starting netminder? Very doubtful. Above average would probably be top 30 in the leauge. I can probably rattle of atleast 30 goalies I would rather have (contract aside) then Turek.
He is a good goalie who has settled into the back up role, that happened because he couldn't hang onto the number one job. He has several massive flaws in his game that keeps him from being a #1 goalie, I think they are pretty obvious. If he didn't have them.. he would be a #1 guy.
I like Turek, don't start thinking I don't. But I hope that not for one second someone is thinking he has the chops to be a number goalie anymore

Because it's Summer and I figured it'd be fun. Here's a bump of the oldest thread on CP. Well, the oldest one with any posts in it.
So... how about that Roman Turek? Are you a fan?

I find it funny that "Calgary Flames" has a lifetime ban on a Calgary Flames forum.
